Hi gang. SRT is in the garage, and first order of business was to remove the hood's 'Jeep' letters, 'Grand Cherokee' side letters, and rear 'SRT8' badge. Looks MUCH better that way, but it's a matter of personal preference :D. Next is to remove the chromed rear 'Jeep' fascia that's between the taillights, and also the bottom part with the chromed surround. Won't mess with the chromed window surround this time because tried it on the Overland and looked horrible. The grille chrome surrounds look fine, so will stay as well. That's enough chrome :D.

Before bringing the truck home, saw a Laredo 'Altitude' edition at the dealer, and the rear part is identical to ours, and also has the button and rearview camera. Only problem is there're TWO colors available: 'black' and 'brilliant black'. Does anybody have any idea which one is the color of the bottom trim where the exhaust tips are? And which of the 2 blacks would look better on the black SRT? I'm almost sure I should order 'brilliant black', but want to make sure. The other one must be matte, no?

And finally, does anybody have an idea what's involved to remove both the 'Jeep' part and the bottom part (liftgate sill protector)? I'd guess looking at the replacement parts will give me an idea what I'm dealing with, but prefer to have some instructions and tips as well. By the way, I don't mind trashing the stock parts, but much prefer not having to remove any trim. I'll have to remove the damn bumper for the hitch install, and that's enough :D.

Any and all suggestions/tips, including where to buy, are welcome . Thanks.

Tried that on the Overland, but shops here don't know how to do that properly on chromed plastic. Vinyl wrap was equally disastrous.

Thanks man. Read both threads, and have a few questions:
- Who's the 'Scott' guy? Couldn't find his info. Won't paint the parts this time, but would like to have his forum ID handy.
- It was revealed we DO NOT need the more expensive camera 'brow' if only changing the chromed part, like me. Great tip . Just need to find out if the black button comes with just the painted brow.
- Can the button's wire connector be removed from the outside, without having to remove anything else? Nobody mentioned that.
-Has anybody replaced the chromed surround on the rear bumper's 'step' with the plastic one from the Altitude edition? I was going to order it from the Mopar parts site, but the descriptions didn't match the drawing numbers at all, and need to make sure it's the right part. Seems like the part just pulls to the rear of the vehicle, but when I get the new one will know for sure.

The altutude parts are brilliant black
and.gloss black.
Since the SRT is 'brilliant black crystal pearl' in color, I assume 'brilliant black' is going to be the closest match, correct?

try blackops, he has some really nice carbon fiber replacements. I got the rear boomerang and step to delete the rear chrome.
Thanks man, but since truck is brilliant black, I think the brilliant black part will match almost perfectly. The lower cladding is brilliant black, I think, and you need to really pay attention to see that it's a different color than the truck. It looks body colored, even from a foot away.

Finally, the black 'Jeep' part and 'SRT' on the hitch bezel is all the truck needs IMO. And none stand out being body-colored, which I liked. I thought I was going to really like the smooth cover, but I didn't, so will order the $140+ brilliant black. If truck was any other color, I'd have it body-colored, but glad I can just order it that way. Truck looks awesome without any badges. I prefer it low key. Anybody that knows cars will know what it is. No need to have ugly badges on it .

Most people that I know simply get the chrome parts wrapped. Most any decent sigh shop can wrap them in any color you want. That rear jeep badge and bumper trim would probably look better in a carbon fiber wrap. I'd even recommend it for the chrome lower front intake.

As I mentioned before, tried that with the Overland at the best shop in town, and even after taking the truck back twice, the job looked horrible man. I was going to have them strip the film and live with the chrome, but that's when a new SRT showed up at the dealer and made the swap. So rather spend $140 for a factory part, which happens to be available in the exact paint match (brilliant black). And it includes the button. But thanks again for the comment. That option might be a good one for folks in larger cities with good shops. Not here, unfortunately. Take care.

i can answer for Chad....the "Jeep" is molded into the cf and has a black granite kind of look by the way he explained to me.

Rear bumper has to come off for the rear step.
How about just the surround? It moves a little back and forth. I think it should just slide rearward with some motivation, no? At this point I want to avoid having to remove the bumper, but may have to do that during the hitch install. If I determine bending it will be too risky (especially for the cladding), will come off.

Hey Blackops, that C/F stuff looks awesome man, although I question how long the step pad would last with normal abuse while loading and unloading stuff. Does it have a special epoxy finish, or just a regular clear coat? The other C/F parts shouldn't be an issue IMO. And they complement the interior C/F bits on SRTs.

I have his step pad from the 1st gen SRT and it is almost bullet proof. They are gelcoated like a boat or somehting. Even if it is scratched...you can sand and polish it out with everyday tools. NEVER buy a cf piece that is clearcoated
