Warranty

I am picking up my SRT tomorrow (Sydeny Australia) and have just been told that in order to maintain my factory warranty I need to service my car every 6 months or 12000km (7500mi) whichever occurs first. I don't drive that much and would only do around 12000km (7500mi) a year. Is this true?

Well I was told that I need to service my car every 5,000km to change the "SRT OIL" and every 10,000km for regular service.

I'm not sure if everyone has a similar service package. Would also like to confirm with anyone here.

My car has done just over 30k km and is getting it's 50k km service done next week.
The way car makers look at it, is distance or time, as they can both equal similar wear and tear.
My car is used for many short trips and while it does not do much distance, it could be considered a decent workload.
While you may only use the car on weekends, or occasionally they take into consideration the majority. If you miss services, they could deny warranty claims that they consider could be due to lack of scheduled servicing.

Cage, I'm in the same vote, my SRT is going on 7 months old now and has just over 7000ks, i did my first oil change at 2000ks not at dealer though. I am soon to book first dealer scheduled service in a week or two. I know you don't need to, it is a personal thing, but I'm changing oil every 5000ks or so ensuring that in the process i am also fulfilling the books for warranty.

Re: Waranty

So that leads me to another question. Do you have to get your car serviced at a Jeep dealer service centre. You are changing your own oil. Does that void warranty?

Re: Waranty

Must be hand booked serviced at whichever comes first, km or time.
Does not have to be a jeep dealer, must have a stamp from a certified mechanic though, so many do all of the oils, filters etc, and get mechanic to basically look at it, and stamp.

Re: Waranty

Well my dealer is giving me the impression it has to be at a Jeep dealer. I will confirm tomorrow.

Re: Waranty

Well that would be an illegal claim. Did they actually say that or simply imply?

See this
Repairs and maintenance - NSW Fair Trading

"As long as the service is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, any licensed repairer can do it, not just the dealer from whom you purchased the vehicle."

Note this from another article

"However, a vehicle manufacturer can refuse a warranty claim when you have not kept up the recommended maintenance (or not kept your receipts or logbook as proof), or where inappropriate work has been carried out, or when a non-genuine replacement part has failed or caused damage to the vehicle."

Re: Waranty

Thanks Snuke, they have only implied this, they did not directly say this. Is was during their sell for the prepaid service schedule.
