Washington Post review from last weekend

http://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...4FI_story.html

“There is a market for these vehicles,” Gilles said. “It’s not a mass market. But it’s lucrative. We’re going after it.”....

"The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 — along with SRT versions of the Dodge Challenger and Charger and the Chrysler 300 sedan — are designed to attract high-performance driving enthusiasts. The Jeep of the SRT line is likely to be introduced this fall at a base price around $50,000, making it a value in comparison with high-performance SUVs such as the Porsche Cayenne S (base price $64,400) and the Audi Q7 3.0T S-line ($59,950)."

Re: Washington Post review from last weekend

The common denominator in all the magazines is how well the Jeep handles. In every review I've read, (which I think is all of them) they all say, no matter what SUV (BMW M or C-Turbo) you bring to the fight, you will be out handled in the new Jeep.
I'm sure it's not what the drag racing crowd wants to hear, but how nice to say your JEEP out handles BMW and Porsche. 2 Makers often bench marked for best handling across their lineups.

Now, if we can only get some straightline performance #s from real world users, so we can see what the beast pulls like!

I'm surprised not one of the willow springs guys pulled out a gps accel ap. Or at least did it and wrote about it. I wonder if the magazine/web interviewers had to sign a non disclosure agreement about certain aspects?

^ THIS ^

I think what is happening here is we're all just now catching on to their scam. This is a TOTAL CONSPIRACY!! Chrysler and Jeep and specificall the SRT team are working covertly with all of these magazine editors to a) make it sound bland, b) make it sound slow, and c) make it sound overpriced.

I think the reality is it's going to be the opposite of all of those once it is officially shipping. The magazines are going to post some way better times before-long, and the prices will hopefully also be resolved (by end of today because I said so damnit!!)

Chrysler and SRT have really tricked us, but now we've wised up. Well done Chrysler, well done!

Inside Line said they did one and that preliminary results had it slightly behind the WK1. They said it was a bad surface... Inside Line for SOME REASON cant drive Chryco vehicles for shit though. Nearly all of their mopar times are the slowest published by .3-.5+ tenths. IE a 13.8 for a 6.1 Challenger http://www.insideline.com/dodge/chal...nger-srt8.html

Ive noticed this as well but the motortrend article wasnt all that keen on the handling chops

"The car moves around a little, but going into Turn One it feels predictable, and I'm off the pedal before turning in. The front end wants to change direction pretty quickly, but the rest of that big body fights it. The rear is still hooked up and it ends up pushing and missing the apex by a couple of feet. Not what I expect from something Jeep considers "Track Rated."
