Re: What did you do to your WK2 SRT today?

Okay I received a email reply from Rob at GTHaus Exhaust about the loss of power and here's his explanation :
Hello John

Hope all is well , thank you for the e-mail I enjoyed reading it. I am glad that you are enjoying your Jeep SRT8 with our American Roar Racing exhaust.
As for the your loss of power you are experiencing let me explain in detail. Our exhaust has a larger diameter in piping 76mm to be exact.
With the larger diameter piping on a natural aspirated vehicle under 2500 rpm you will experience minimal torque loss. We suggest driving 2500rpm and under in closed mode.
The fun starts at 3000 rpm with your vehicle in open mode and continues up to redline. If you have questions regarding our GT HAUS products please do not hesitate to contact me anytime.....

Anyway I thought I would share to see what other GTHaus owners thought or other members of the Jeep community :-)

Lol about time Marty!

Yep, cheers Milesy, I think from memory I bought that off you in Feb so it has been awhile. I ended up matt black ceramic coating the tips and they came up very nice.

Very happy mate, cheers. Oh and the wheels turn up in 5 weeks so I am very excited.

Re: What did you do to your WK2 SRT today?

Addressing the GTHAUS power loss issue. I've discussed this extensively, of course it's all empirical evidence, regardless, again, in a nutshell:

No way there is a 25% loss in power. IMO you are gaining HP in both open and close mode. The issue is you are losing torque down low in open mode. According to my butt dyno the loss is huge. But when I time it equal conditions I only lose a tenth or two 0-60 in open. 1/4 mile I have not tested. Freeway racing open mode wins without a doubt.

When I get a chance to return to the drag strip I will compare open to closed. Last time I had my custom exhaust which IMO had better performance across the board.

Another thing I have noticed is do not race someone immediately after going from closed or from open to the opposite. The Jeep needs a little time to adapt to the change in backpressure/flow. I tried that and my Jeep momentarily cut the fuel (that's what it feels like) before taking off. Because of that I lost the race.

PS. Remember I'm no gear head so I am describing things to the best of my ability. But I'm sure what I am saying is accurate.

Thank you A-kon that is very helpful mate and what you said about it "momentarily cut the fuel is what it feels like before taking off " is exactly what I was trying to describe in my other posts and the comment you make about "time to adapt to the change in back pressure /flow" explains a lot and is very helpful so thanks for you insight mate .

Was going to do some 1/4 mile testing my self but without thinking I bloody fuelled up with a full tank of petrol lol , so have to wait a week now

ditch the spare tire for weight saving, we have run flats anyway

That should help keep the weight down with that full tank.

Yea thanks Milesy , have been meaning to do this but always forget when going out to have some fun . Got some good comments yesterday about me cars exhaust note , 2 blokes come over and heard my car idling at the shopping centre while waiting for the missus one had a ss Holden ute the other had a maloo ute and they asked me would I mind giving it a couple of revs , of course I obliged and also asked me to give it a good blast when taking off lol . Man this exhaust turns heads everywhere I go and it's hard not to open fully..
