Re: What did you do to your WK2 SRT today?

An update to my earlier post regarding installing factory rear entertainment two years after the fact... What did you do to your WK2 SRT today?

Victory!

The rear screens work as designed but right now can only be controlled through the UConnect remote and audio is only through the wireless headphones. Until I get my BCM/radio reflashed which will add the AEK code to my VIN I won't get the option to control the rear entertainment through the 8.4" UConnect screen up front. Not a big deal right now as my kids can manage everything from the back seat.

All the parts came together at the right time to make this happen. I have been watching eBay like a hawk to find the seats and blu-ray player for quite some time.

My install price (my labor being free mind you)...

New (to me) front seats with factory rear entertainment: $900
Blu-ray player (from wrecked Durango): $300
New center console insert to mount Blu-Ray: $77
New center console harness for rear entertainment: $107
New UConnect remote and two pair of wireless headphones: $40
Miscellaneous wiring bits (pins, wire, connectors, etc.) $50
My Parts Total: $1484
Factory Invoice: $1776
Savings: $292

I can post instructions if anyone else is eager enough to tackle this.

You didn't need the entire front seats, did you? The rears pop off of them...but I guess they come with all the electronics and wiring for the tvs.

No, you can piece meal the components together but it will be significantly more expensive than finding a complete set of seats. A single new seat back display at wholesale price is nearly $700, plus you need new seat skins, upper foam, internal harnesses, aux input cluster, etc. It's not as simple as slapping the two monitors on your existing seats. Sure you can buy aftermarket kits for less than $1400 too but I like the challenge. Not to mention the damn factory Blu-Ray player is a $1000 part new.

Understood. My daughter is only 5 months, but I'd eventually want to do rear entertainment when her seat is forward facing. I might just go aftermarket..but that's awesome that you did this. Took some patience I bet.

Nice job. I would have hope your savings would have been more, but you got my respect for tackling (and completing) the job!

What did you do to your WK2 SRT today?

Hopefully someone can help me out.. When I got my jeep I didn't buy it with the spare tire. So when I put on my first set of 22's I got a set from someone parting out an SRT. So my problem is right now that because I didn't have the kit in the first place I don't have that little screw thats in the middle that holds the tire in place. Does anyone know the part number so I can order one.. I hear the spare when I hit bumps and it's driving me crazy.. Thanks in advance.

This picture from a different jeep but just to show what screw am talking about..
