What part is this?

Greetings - I have a new SRT lined up to buy however during the test drive it was throwing a CEL. The dealer claimed CELs were common however, I took a look at the engine bay when we got back to the dealer and notice this part was ripped off (in the red box). Can anyone tell me what it is?

The dealer says it's nothing and they'll fix it for me but my concern is that it appears to be a vacuum hose of some sort so I'm worried it's pulling unfiltered air into the engine. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: What part is this?

It's not ripped off. I believe it's a sensor. Regardless CELs are not normal.

Does the Jeep have an aftermarket exhaust? A small percent with cat backs are affected with CELs.

The picture is just something I pulled from the web but the actual SRT I'm looking at has this piece ripped off. All that's there is a torn hose where you can feel air getting sucked in if you put your finger on it.

It's a brand new 14" so no aftermarket exhaust on the car.

Re: What part is this?

CELs are never common, nor should they be casually dismissed. Saying that is just a salesman trying to make a deal. If they want to sell the vehicle, they need to correct the issue. If it were me and I was very serious about buying that one, I would tell them fix it and call me when they had it done. Only then would I consider negotiating a deal. My guess is it would be taken care of VERY quickly. My guess is that is a vacuum test port, but that is just a guess. If so, that would explain the CEL and would be an easy fix - once they get the right part or take it off another vehicle...
