Where does your 6.4 idle at

It has just cooled off down here enough to occasionaly run with the AC off. One thing I noticed is that my engine idle will drop to 500 rpms like when you are waiting on a stop light and the truck is in gear. With the AC on it never dropped below the 650 ish rpm range. 500 rpms seems really low, are you guys seeing this too?

I've noticed mine does this also. Not really sure why though.

Re: Where does your 6.4 idle at

Mine does the same, normal idle is around 700 but it will drop to 500 for a few seconds as if its going to stall then it catches and settles back to 700. It was disconcerting at first but I'm used to it now.

Re: Where does your 6.4 idle at

I'm pretty much at a constant 700 with the AC off.

Re: Where does your 6.4 idle at

Hmmm. Once mine falls to 500 rpms it doesnt climb again until I mess with the gas pedal. It happens everytime at a long light. Im thinking about disconning the battery and reset everything

Re: Where does your 6.4 idle at

It must be an idle speed programmed in there because the 3.6L does the same thing.

Same here. And the oil pressure rises to 60+. I would have thought they wanted to keep the oil pressure as low as possible while the oil warms up....

Re: Where does your 6.4 idle at

Now that I have run a couple days without the A/C I see the same thing. At a stop light the idle drops to 500 and stays there. If I turn on the air it jumps up to 650. It's working fine and idles quite nicely at 500 (this is in gear, in park or neutral it seems to stay at 650 regardless)
