If your racing me...Use 1/4 throttle and gently apply throttle to you reach 3/4 thottle half way down the track. This will reduce any shock to the driveline and reduce any chance of you winning!

The trick in the WK1 is traction control off, brake stall to about 1500 rpms while in autostick mode. On second to last yellow light on the tree, FLOOR IT. Jeep takes care of the rest. Let off the gas after you go through the finish line.

Ya, I might need a couple practice runs on the 1/4 mile, the Tahoe i drive currently isn't exactly know for its acceleration or speed...

Brake stall? So like push hard on the brakes and rev the engine up? Vehicle isn't moving but it's just slipping because of the brakes? Does this not wear out your transmission though?

Dogg.. Yes and Yes.
It isn't that horrible on the tranny, especially at 1500 rpms. It's more preloading it and eliminating any at rest situation.
So far, it seems like some guys do it, some don't.

So is the auto-clutch basically just slipping until the brakes are dis-engaged? Is it strenuous or all controlled by electronics??

Re: While we are waiting for the final price.....

At the SRT Experience (that is included on every new SRT vehicle purchase) you will have the opportunity to drive their SRT Jeeps on various tracks around the country, as well as SRT 300's,Challengers, Chargers, etc.

This is some actual race track experience, as well as solom through cones. This is mostly a lead follow exercise with stability controls left on to avoid accidents.

They set up a drag strip with full throttle starts, and ending up with a short solom course to experience tight handling capabilities.

The next step up is to join in one of the many High Performance Driving Events (HPDE) at a race track near you. For about $100-200 per day you can race at full speed with others in your group. SUV's are not common here, but not unknown. For beginning groups your car can be reasonably stock. For faster groups you will need to add safety equipment conversant with your expected speeds.

The Drive SRT program has changed since the slalom and drags.
At least in April 2010, the day consisted of a head to head figure 8 race in challengers, a race track with lead pace car and usually 2 following, some autocross races with 2 runs in a challenger and one run in the jeep. A second round of laps around the course with the lead car "stepping up" the speed.
Last are hot laps with professional drivers, driven to their max. Which makes you realize how slow you were actually going before. LOL.

It's a great time, and if you're behind the leader, then he'll push it faster.

In mine, Mario (Forum Member) was just riding with the pro, and he told the pro that he had two jeep owners on his tail and we thought we could keep up. LOL...That was a joke. He killed us. Albeit, he had the pleasure of no traction control. on.

It's mechanical and similar to the situation iff you're on a steep hill and you step on the gas, but don't quite move.
You're only doing it for about 3 seconds TOPS.
Have you ridden in a Jeep SRT8 yet Dogg?
If not, go for a test drive and try a launch with these steps.
If you think you're damaging something, let me know. After you wipe the smile from your face. 4.5 0 - 60's are FUN!!!

Re: While we are waiting for the final price.....

in regards to brake stalling, it is not significantly bad bad excessive use of the technique can lead to an early exit from you TC

Ive never really seen it with the Jeep SRT8 but know of some other guys who have smoked their converters from excessive use of brake stalling. Simply puts a higher load on the converter and essentially raises the coupling staging to w.e rpms your brakes can hold, similar to hill scenario described by Quick. Also shock does put some extra strain on trans and rear, but again its all very insignificant until you begin doing it at every stop and go. Hope that helps

Ok, ok, got it, that makes a lot of sense and was also on my list of unexplained phenomenon's...

Maybe I will go get in my SRT8 today and go try this out now..
