2010's are still selling at $1500 less than I paid brand new 1.5 years ago I don't think that's going to change, so I wouldn't be so optimistic on your plans. These vehicles will still be worth $38-40k used in 2-3 years IMO.
I agree. With less than HALF the production #s of the 2006 WKSRT8 as a 2012 and even in 2013 with a full production level of around 3,000 units, these are limited production cars that don't take initial deprecations like mass produced cars do.

Even the Z06 has a 6,000 unit production level. That's double what the GCSRT8 was at any year, never mind 2009.

However, it is something to think of in your financial calculations that the car retains such high value is not as costly as a lesser model with high production numbers and high depreciation.
Maybe a higher cost to get in, but your value will still be in the vehicle come sell time.

Typically, I figure approximately a $5K dollar per year loss in a new car.
So far, I'm looking only at a 2K per loss on the Jeep SRT8.
2002 Acura TL lost 7K per year. 2005 Nissan Titan lost 5K.

Jeep Wrangler is one of the best for a high production model and typically you lose 3-4K on one of those per year.

Hmmm, good comparos. And Im not disagreeing with any of you guys at all its definitely one of the better value holding cars out there in the comparable markets. And regardless, I love the thing so damn much it wouldn't really matter for me as long as the WK2 isnt a big piece of crap when it actually comes out and gets beat on. It could be worth no $ to me because I dont plan on ever selling it haha. I buy cars that I know I love and will keep for long long time if not forever. That said a nice investment is always a good thing in case something ever comes up, you an get out of the situation without taking a huge hit. Just happens to be a win win in this case.

But yeah, $2k depreciation a year is impressive and at that rate you are really getting your $ worth and some if you ask me. Lot of factors involved with all that obviously but at the end of the day it still makes more sense to buy lightly used rather than new if on a budget or being financially conscious. Id love a new fully loaded WK2 for $50k or so but if I an find one with 5k miles on it in EXCELLENT OVERALL CONDITION and it could be had for say $46k, Id do it, $4k goes along way. And to think its already broken in for you

That's good info. for the guys who have them on order.
I thought they were limiting production to the 1500 level to mitigate quality control and design changes for the first MY.

I hope they produce 5,000 of them and sell them all! That would be great and help get money to fund further models and enhancements in the new SRT brand/entity.

absolutely Brian! Hopefully all of those guys would join JeepGarage too!

I have a red SRT on order...but the dealer will not commit to a price or even talk price. So we'll see when it comes in.

Re: Who's buying one?

I put $1k on a black SRT on Saturday. As far as I am concerned, with the WK2 Jeep totally adddressed the major problems I had with the GC. !. Room for four adults. 2. Nicer interior and, for the SRT8, 3. Towing and 4. Somewhat snow capable. The first two issues were also the major complaints of the 2009 C&D comparo.

Then I had to decide whether to get an off-road capable Overland or the SRT8. If I am going off road I'll take my old '97 Wrangler 6cyl 5-speed manual I thought, not a new GC and if I didn;t get the SRT would I have later regretted it as they say in the ads "I coulda had a V-8" (or a big one at least). The only thing I am not crazy about are the RF tires which may loose a battle with one of the many potholes around here and would be very expensive if you had to replace one

I think the SRT will do what it needs to to get me through the winter (it will be my new winter ride). The do plow the roads around here and I'm not planning to put a blade on the front of it. My driveway is often covered with ice in the winter and I can't back up my rwd summer ride out of the garage without it careening towards the stone wall or the lamp post.

Can you guys help me out with when I should be bugging my dealer for a VON, VIN and such?

The dealer you ordered from should be able to provide the VON as soon as the order is submitted.

Re: Who's buying one?

Sweet, thanks!? So the Jeeps get shipped around for body, emissions, storage, etc? I guess I just thought they rolled 'em onto the trucks and they went directly to the dealers...

Any ideas how long each process takes along the way??

I'm guessing most of us are in B+ Has anyone found theirs to be in C or D status yet??
