My detailer is also nice and let's me use his garage from time to time. He has a floor drain and makes washing the car a joy in the winter.

Re: Winter Car Washes

In Michigan we have this xtreme carwash place next to most Meijer stores. Im going to buy an unlimited pass for $35 per month, unlimited touchless washes. I think its a great deal. might take her through a couple times a day lol.

If you have the air suspension, run it up to OR-2 setting to make it easier to get a spray wand underneath the vehicle to rinse off the road salt. Also pop the hood and rinse off the engine compartment, etc. to get the salt out of there. I typically leave the engine running and don't get crazy, haven't had any issues with getting water where it don't belong. I use a curved wand if at home, but if I get really heavy salt/ice will use a coin op to get the worst off.

Touchless wash always leaves a film in the winter, so a hand wash every now and then is needed if that bothers you.

Re: Winter Car Washes

When my house was built I had them run hot water to the garage. Pull it in there and wash with hot water. The stuff they use to treat the roads in N E Ohio is drives me nuts with a black jeep.

Re: Winter Car Washes

Mine gets washed and thoroughly waxed as late in November as I can stand the weather.

Then it doesn't get touched again until spring.

Re: Winter Car Washes

I usually take mine and the wife's thru a touch less once or twice a week. Then take them to the hand wash every 3 weeks during the winter

Back in the day, a neighbour had a 1962 Pontiac that he parked in a single car attached garage. After a few years of winter driving, the side of his car usually parked next to the house had rusted through, but the side next to the outside wall was fine. We attributed this to poor insulation on the house side of the garage, allowing heat from the house to escape into the garage, causing the melting & rust you speak of. Coated steel used in the manufacture of newer vehicles should help prevent this.

The condensation the heat creates is still going to cause damage. My garage is heated and I leave mine outside. My escalade was undercoated every year and it still rusted at the door seams from the heated garage.

I agree...heated garages cause more harm then good... Heating that salt on your vehicle creates more rust...

There are those unkind and disrespectful souls that might suggest you just found an acceptable use for Canadian Club... to thaw them out.

Yeah, and you need to remember not to try to roll the windows down if you value your window sealing on cold days...
