Re: Winter Tires- summary thread

Not impressed with the Blizzaks in the snow. Wanted Firestone Winterforce, but they weren't available in my size. They're amazing, especially when studded. Decided on Cooper's that look like the Nokians and had them studded. They were fantastic in all conditions in northern, northern New England.

Blizzaks are a little expensive in 275 45 20's.

Not true. I've run ~6 different pairs of Blizzaks on different cars and they've all had plenty of tread after running them for several seasons. You don't run them all year long.

Re: Winter Tires- summary thread

I know this may be a very stupid question but I'm a noobie with high performance cars... I have the 3-season P Zero tires, do I need to worry about getting winter tires in Southern California?

I read these should be fine in the rain and it really doesn't drop below 50 here. Hell, it doesn't even rain often.
Once in a while it will get in the 40s in the early morning but never any ice or snow.

You should be fine with 3 seasons in conditions you described

The special compound only covers half the depth. So they can look fine but not perform well. Typical usage people get 3 seasons if they are lucky. like 20k on the tire. They even state this on their web site. I'll get 8 seasons out of Nokians at 20K a year.

My wife put 230k miles on her VW and used ONE set of Nokians and 3 sets of summer tires. I had to replace the Nokian RIMs because the were so rusty. Tread was still good on them but the cords were breaking and rubber cracking they were so old. Probably ran them a little to long

Nokians are not a studless ice tire like a blizzak. So blizzaks are more sticky when that compound is still on the tire. But they just don't last long enough for me. Once compound is gone Nokian would out grip it.

I have had this setup on mine for the last 3 winters and work great... I like a little more narrow tire to cut through the white sh!t...

How many sets of Blizzaks have YOU owned? My wife and I have run them for yrs and this is not our experience at all. We've had them on for 4+ Winter seasons without an issue December through May 1st.

Re: Winter Tires- summary thread

At the end of of last winter on pure ice I noticed they weren't as "grippy" granted if I just slowed the e'ff down I would be fine... but did consider a new set this coming winter... assuming I can swap the rims /tires to the hellcat in a year or 2

Re: Winter Tires- summary thread

I had Firestone Winterforces on the v6 wk2 i had before the SRT and were amazing 10/10 tire Deep treads super software wore like iron. Wish I could find an 18" rim to fit the SRT fronts like a Drag wheel or something mount them to it
