The most wonderful time of the year is coming. My SRT was awful in the snow on the highway last year with the Yokohamas. I remember there were a few different opinions on tires. The Blizzacks sounded interesting, but they don't seem to come in our size.

Please chime in and help me figure out the very best snow tires to keep this thing glued to New York roads in the winter.

Thanks!

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2

OEM Size
295/45R20 30.5x11.6R20 30.5"

Options:
275/50R20 30.8x10.8R20 30.8"+1.0%
285/50R20 31.2x11.2R20 31.2"

https://www.nokiantires.com/winter-tires/nokian-hakkapeliitta-r2-suv/

Ran them on an AWD Subaru Legacy GT (aka grown up STI). Went from Blizzak WS-60 at 50% tread to the Hakkapeleiitta's when we moved to Vail to drive on snow full time.

Blizzak's were great, but the Nokain's offered that extra little bit. Less sliding on clear mornings that were super cold, dealt well with the slush.

No direct size replacement, but I would go with a narrower tire to cut through the slush better. Get a set of take-offs and swap tires summer and winter.

I'll second and even third this opinion.
The only tires better than Nokian Hakka are Nokian Hakka factory studded tires.
It take true stupidity combined with extreme skill to get in trouble with either of the holders of the world ice speed record.

Michelin and Pirelli ain't chopped liver, but they also ain't Nokian.

The Pirelli website must be hosed. Right now they are showing no 295/45 20 tires available. I purchased Perilli winter tires off ebay in stock size, 1400 shipped to my door, ebay for TPMS and factory reproductions for another $700 shipped my door. All told 2200 for them delivered, mounted and balanced. Add to that it was double fuel perks so I got nearly $9 off gas too!

I have had this setup on mine for the last 3 winters and work great... I like a little more narrow tire to cut through the white sh!t...

Not impressed with the Blizzaks in the snow. Wanted Firestone Winterforce, but they weren't available in my size. They're amazing, especially when studded. Decided on Cooper's that look like the Nokians and had them studded. They were fantastic in all conditions in northern, northern New England.
Be really careful with studs. They are great that 1% of the time you really need them. But they a downright dangerous the other 99% of the time.

I will NEVER run studs and learned the hard way.

I know this may be a very stupid question but I'm a noobie with high performance cars... I have the 3-season P Zero tires, do I need to worry about getting winter tires in Southern California?

I read these should be fine in the rain and it really doesn't drop below 50 here. Hell, it doesn't even rain often.
Once in a while it will get in the 40s in the early morning but never any ice or snow.

You should be fine with 3 seasons in conditions you described

At the end of of last winter on pure ice I noticed they weren't as "grippy" granted if I just slowed the e'ff down I would be fine... but did consider a new set this coming winter... assuming I can swap the rims /tires to the hellcat in a year or 2

I had Firestone Winterforces on the v6 wk2 i had before the SRT and were amazing 10/10 tire Deep treads super software wore like iron. Wish I could find an 18" rim to fit the SRT fronts like a Drag wheel or something mount them to it

Yeah I haven't kept a car past 4 winter seasons for a while and I usually put 6k miles on during that season so 24k would be the max I've had with no issues. I just bought Yoko IceGuard's for a ridiculously low closeout price for my wife's new car. I'm sure they'll be great and last a number of seasons since her commute is short. I guess the Nokians would be ideal if one was keeping a car from cradle to grave.

I've had 3 WK2's and keep using the same set of Nokians. They are on 2014 Durago 18" Take-Off RIM's. Probably have 20-25K on them now and they have a long way to go.

Long as your stock height you will have no issues,be warned there will be a difference in handling for sure.

and some installers will not put tires that do not match the default size. I know places like walmart will only put the tiresize that came off. unless you bring in bare rim.

Based on the thread title, isn't it time for the OP to summarize the information?

Just ordered new set of winter tires, for some reason ice and snows are not available, I used them for three seasons. They are Pirelli scorpion winters, tread looks more aggressive than ice and snows, I can report back when I use them this winter

Just got them $1350, shipped, balanced and mounted....that's after $60 rebate through Pirelli. They are a newer tire for winter than ice and snow. I got OEM size. I wonder if they are not making ice and snows for our OEM size anymore?

Hi everyone, I got a 2014 WK2 a couple months ago and have a set of 20X9 SRT reps with 275-40-20 Blizaks from my old SRT8. I talked with a tire store today, and they advised not to run them as they are almost 6% smaller and could badly affect ride quality. Anyone else think that they will be too small and affect the ride quality badly?

Yes, that was it  Thanks for clarifying. It's 3% max diff for staggering since more will toast the transfer case since it will have 2 shafts rotating at diff enough speeds...

Here is a calc for OEM (think I got yours right) 20x8x56.4mm shod w/ 265/50/20 and the SRT8 reps at 20x9x34.55mm shod w/ 275/40/20. If I am wrong just change it in the calculator.

My concern for Chevsux is not the 6% speedo/odom error (can be corrected) as much as the effective on vehicle width....the SRT8 wheels will stick out 1.1 in. more than current...besides maybe looking funny you may have a fender lip clearance issue when working the suspension and omg the debris you would be throwing at your side body...just my thoughts....

here's the best tire size calc to fiddle with:

Anyone ever run the AMP 265 50 20 on their Jeeps? I was going to go with a set of the Nitto Terra Grapple G2 265's but they are only rated M&S, where the AMP's are an all weather with the snow flake?
