WK2 SRT transmission durability

I know you guys are tuning/modding your rides with the new 8 speed. The ZF 8R70 is rated at 700nm torque (516 ft-lb) and I'm sure some have exceeded this. With all the talk of forced induction kits on the horizon, I'm sure SRT and Hemi owners will exceed ratings considerably.

So, the question is this: Has anyone broke their tranny or noticed wear or need for repair related to high torque?

FYI, my little 3.0 diesel is supposedly putting out 531 ft-lb (721nm) with a tuner and some diesel owners are concerned about durability. I don't race...the diesel runs out of steam up top....but it does have a lot of grunt which is brutal on the drive line with the traction of 4wd. I may run WOT once a week on a launch, but that's about it. Shelby was incorrect, Torque exclusively does NOT win races...lol.

We oil burners would appreciate any input you guys have.

Thanks!

Re: WK2 SRT transmission durability

By the lack of response, I guess the 8R70 is indestructible....or outsiders are ignored. I was hoping for some friendly insight...surely someone has knowledge?

are you sure about the tq rating? I know the hp rating is 700+ and the RIPP guys are pushing the 700 hp limit right now with no side effects. Not sure what tq RIPP is oushing. Check out his dyno thread.

Re: WK2 SRT transmission durability

I'm positive about the 516 ft-lb torque rating. You can stay below that rating and still make 700hp if you make it a 5500 rpm+.

I will take a look at their thread. Thanks!

Re: WK2 SRT transmission durability

I just watched the video. It looks like a 35% gain in HP and Torque. Stock is 470hp/465tq at the flywheel. Dyno is 390rwhp. After centrifugal supercharging it was 530rwhp (+35%). Torque at the flywheel should increase the same so the tranny will see 627 ft-lb! That's well over the 516 ft-lb rated limit.

I see a few installs in progress so we'll see if the 8R70 breaks soon enough. Especially if launch control is used.
