I've previously indicated that I want the CF tailgate strip cover, but I reaaly want to paint it body color, so the fiberglass cover is probably a better idea. Is this something that is available now, or in the near future?
I guess this question (about fiberglass parts) would also apply to the rear step and mirror covers as well.
I'd be down for these parts in fiberglass as well. As long as they fit pretty flush and dont look like stick on covers. Otherwise I could just paint the oem parts. Would also take some CF side mirror covers.
Looks good... Did you have it painted at a body shop? Did they sand down the Jeep logo? The middle of it looks a bit funny but maybe its just the camera ro maybe the Jeep logo is still there?
More pics here. Probably reflections in that pic. The piece looks great, you'd never know it used to be chrome with jeep logo. Yes, custom shop made it for me. Basically, ground, sanded, painted. A lot more steps in there though than that.
It looks good and I will take the whole disassembly into consideration. I know their are a lot of clips once you get the whole piece off that the Jeep piece (The Chrome) is attached to the (Black part) and a clip broke on us on the (Chrome piece). Do you know if they took the chrome piece off or just the whole assembly and filled? Reason I ask is if the ground it down on the (black piece) that comes off as a whole and then proceeded to fill in on the black part I would be concerned since they are actually two parts the bonding material would come lose between the chrome and the black over time could never happen or it could happen in a year or 6 mo. Reason being since they are two pieces and Bondo and similar products have a shrink factor over time. No doubt it looks killer!!!
Their is one way to fill the Jeep logo if using the existing OE part and I feel only 1 way just wondering how they did it? If they took the chrome piece off then it was done right and props to them!!
I will look into a no logo option as it seems lots really want the Jeep logo option gone. The reason I am leaving the Logo for now is this Jeep I have is it's a special build and the Jeep needs to stay for advertising purposes so it's something I feel would really look good shaved if it where my personal rig!! I will do my best to get a No Logo Option available ASAP!!
Yes, I know of the clips on the chrome piece you are talking about. I didn't remove the chrome piece from the rest of the assembly. I've seen it done though on another members post. Just got to be really patient and take your time. I believe there is adhesive as well as the clips holding the chrome piece on.
As for the piece I had made I told the shop I didn't want the pieces separated. If it had to be done then do it, but if not don't do it. Turns out you can grind the jeep down without going all that way through to get it flush.
It isn't an easy piece to make, that's for sure. Definitely takes some skilled guys that know what they are doing. They are currently making me another Mineral Gray just like my first.
