V-LEDs premium digital 5000K HID kit as reverse lights

I've had this kit for a while now but finally got around to installing it. I purchased the 9005 kit because I had a pair of 9005 bulb holders that I removed from a set of BMW headlights. With these pieces mounted to the tail lights, the HID bulb will install like it should, nothing ghetto here. Many headlights have similar [removable] bulb holders though so it shouldn't be hard to find a pair.

To start, I cut off my factory reverse light bulb connector and soldered on a 9005 connector so that it would clip right into the ballast:

Then I roughed up the area around the reverse light socket and the 9005 bulb holders and epoxied the holders to the housing. I used PC Super Epoxy, it's great stuff.

I used the included double sided 3M foam tape to mount the ballast. I was a little hesitant about using just tape but it's pretty burley, I think it'll hold up fine.

After that, just connect the wires and insert the bulbs. When reinstalling the taillight you'll have to pay attention to how you route the wires so that they don't get in the way. Because of the ballast, there are more wires back there then there used to be.

I didn't get a "before" picture so I used a stock WJ as a comparison with standard 3157 reverse light bulbs. I know the housings are different but I think it still gives a pretty fair comparison that speaks for itself.

The following two photos were taken at the same exposure so what you see is what you get, no camera/photoshop trickery was used.

The kit seems to be well made and I love how slim (and waterproof) the ballasts are. Time will tell how well they hold up but as of right now, I couldn't be happier. Just look how bright they are! lol

awesome! so no relays were needed?
one other question. every time you put your car in gear you have to pass through reverse, have you had someone change the gears for you to see if the hids come on real quick while you change from park to drive? thanks!

def interested in doing this mod as well
