WK towing!
So... filled it up with 93... and put superchips on her with towing tune.

went to local hitch place that is literally the best place in the midwest, Council Hitch in Council Bluffs,IA on 16th and broadway. and got a hitch put on it the 3rd day i owned my WK and put in a light harness.

Sadly, its a 4 pin. The trail i have is a 7pin since its got electric brakes...which I can't use,and they had a converter from 4 to 7 so win. Its going to be a light load so I just get to take it easy and such. Question... if i am cruising and its a flat road, is it ok to take it off tow/haul mode so the OD kicks in and the RPM's can go down?

Below is the trailer im pulling...I can tell its behind me for sure. But going she pulls freaking great and the 4.7L seems to be happy on a little test run. Breaking I wish I had the electronic breaks...but yeah dont. lol

Re: WK towing!
look under your truck near the wiring for the 4 pin harness. if there is another plug right beside it then you are already wired for the 7 pin. there will be a dummy cap on the plug. if you purchace the 7 pin female end from chrysler then it will just plug into the back of that. hope that makes sense. my 2005 and my 2007 are wired for both and one of them didn't even have the tow package

Re: WK towing!
I read on here someplace that as long as your torque converter doesn't keep shifting up and down, you are ok to be O/D.

Re: WK towing!
Yes mate, light load (flats), switch off Tow/haul mode is AOK.

Re: WK towing!
Well at my destination and while on the flats I tested this...annnnnnnd the verdict is. No difference in rpms. It seems as if the tow haul mode realizes that the load can put it into O/D. Once I push the tow button again... it's like it shifts out of OD and stays there for a moment then goes back down. This is all at 70mph.

12mpg btw... Ran good the whlole way down.

Re: WK towing!
yeah I dunno.. maybe that's due to superchips?

Re: WK towing!
Looks good to me dude. Do everything like you said and you will be fine. When you get to it, like spiker said there should be a dummy plug behind the rear bumper. remove the cap buy the jeep 7 was female end and a bracket to hold it. Then get an electric brake controller stick with Tekonsha brand, voyager or prodigy series. $50 to 150.

If you jeep already has the dummy plug in the back wiring is a snap. If its not pre wired then the brake controller will need to be wired front to back.

If it is wired install is a snap. You can check out how on

I think mine were side by each in the left rear section of the side bumper cover....

Re: WK towing!
So my step dad gave me a $300 electronic brake controller. Just need to wiring and mount it. Then install a 7pin box in the back on the hitch :) win!

Re: WK towing!
You know I had some pretty gusty cross winds on the way back and it pulled great. I had little wandering at all. On the hilly bits even in tow/haul it wanted to down and up shift alot... I slowed down to 60 - speed limit was 65, and it calmed the hell down.

Im sure with exhaust and whenever I can get the info from ryan to get my throttle body sent back and get it punched out to 70mm ;) I'll have some better powah.
