Jeep turned off while driving

my jeep has been acting very wierd lately.. its a 99 wj with I6 4.0 with 206,xxx miles on it.. recently it started stalling out for no reason.. usually when i was standing in 1 place... today i was by my job looking for parking, and boom, jeep stalled out while i was driving.. very scary moment, because the streering wheel gets very stiff and brakes dont work as good as if the car was running.. so i stopped, and tried to start the car again, but it wouldnt start, so i desided to push it into a parking spot, while pushing it i desided to try and start the car. and it started.. i need to know what could be the problem. i stopped by my shop to ask what could be wrong and the guy told me, that it could be just a sensor(he named 2 sensors, i dont remember the names). if any1 can help me out?

Re: Jeep turned off while driving

It's either your cam or crank position sensor.

I'd bet it's your crank position sensor...very easy fix.

One bolt holds it in. It's located on the back of the engine above the trans. Pain to get to but easy once you figure it out.

Changed the crank & cam on my 1999 WJ and it is still happening, what's left to change beside the fuel pump, and the computer?

Check your battery. I had the same problem before. It kept stalling then all of a sudden it would turn off, so check the battery.

I had the same problem with my CJ7

After weeks of trying to figure out what it was ....iteEnded up being the stator wire was broke making Intermittent contact.

Without any warning the engine would shut off, not fun on the highway :eek::eek:
