Probably a noob question... door moldings

Hey guys, I just bought the 4 piece chrome side moldings to replace the enormous plastic molding that came on the '05 Laredo's. I ordered the harbor freight plastic trim removal tools as well.

My question is, do you just wedge the plastic tool behind the old molding and pull until the plastic clips pop out? What I don't want to do is break the clips and have them left behind in the holes which might prevent me from installing the new molding.

I know it's probably an easy install, I just want to make sure I'm going about it the right way.

Thanks,

i know some people just pop open the door panels, and remove the clips that way, i would think that would be the easiest...btw what are you gonna do with the old moldings??

Hmmm...I have no idea how to pop open the door panels. I wonder if I should pick up the Haynes manual as well. I was kind of hoping I could just use the auto trim stick to release them from the door on the outside.

I was just going to toss the old molding in the trash, but if anyone wants it, just pay shipping and they're yours. I already have a box to ship them in. Shipping on the chrome trim was 7.00 and change to give you an idea of what it would cost.

yep u can just wedge the tool between and pop it out. just do it slowly and hopefully none of the clips snap. easiest way IMO.

the wider 05-06 laredo moldings are the easiest to get off....

Let your truck set out in the hot sun or use a hairdryer to heat up the moldings. the wider moldings use a strip of 3m tape. Just pry up a corner enough to get your fingers under it and peel the molding back. Then you can use your tool to pop the clips out. They are very easy once you get the tape softened

Thanks Scott. I'm going to try to take them off this weekend. It's supposed to be hovering around 100 all week here in Philly so the hairdryer probably won't be neccessary. I'll try not to break any clips so 3.7wk can mess around with them.

i appreciate it! im gonna try to cut the bottom half off, to make it look like the 07-10 laredo moldings!

Replaced my fat old moldings today with the new chrome ones....Sorry 3.7WK, I broke a number of the plastic pieces that hold the clips on the old door moldings....I'll still ship them to you if you want them, but they might not be worth it.
