Suspension Crunch
I bought a 2006 grand Cherokee with 30,000 miles 2 months ago. Yesterday it developed a bad crunch/grind/pop which seems to be suspension related and feels like it is under the drivers seat area. It occurrs mostly after a stop when I begin accelerating. CRUNCH!
Doesn't act or sound like a U-joint, no rumble and lasts longer than just taking up some slack. It also happens sometimes when hitting bumps or dips in the road while driving. Feels like a good hammer tap under the drivers seat. Any ideas? I Gotta get under there tomorrow and look:confused:

Re: Suspension Crunch
the front diff has 2 or 3 rubber mounts holding it to the chassis. thhey are pressed into the diff so it has to be lowered to get them in and out. PITA.
sounds like the center one. if thats what it is, replace them all at one time.

Re: Suspension Crunch
Two issues occurred - first, the original shocks were toast and were making the noise originally.
Second, I did not tighten the shock bolts tight enough on the new shocks, so a noise continued after replacement. I thought it was the same noise continued.
A good blast on each bolt with the impact wrench stopped the noise.
