Modern Horsepower CRD Tuning Review

For a while now I've been running with an engine (ECM) and transmission (TCM) tune from Modern Horsepower. Had a lot of time to try it out in a lot of different situations and all in all it's been great. Just cruising around town it's pretty much identical to what it was before but when you drop the hammer it's a totally different Jeep. There's definitely more oomph and the most obvious change is the shifting which is a lot firmer and quicker. As far as I know MHP is the only company out there who has tuned a TCM on a WK CRD.

It's been running great and I'm pretty sure I've had a little boost in mileage but admittedly I haven't been keeping track of the mileage as much as I should be. With the 2" OME lift and running 32" mildly aggressive tires I'm still able to get a good 22-23mpg on the highway at 75mph and probably an extra 1-2mpg now that it's back to summer fuel.

I'm not sure what they would charge since I was the first CRD and was basically the guinea pig. Now that they've had a chance to work with it you would have to contact MHP directly to get all the information. The best thing about it in my opinion is the transmission tune, the shifts make a huge difference in how the vehicle drives. Since I didn't have a chance run the Jeep until I had both the ECM and TCM tune I can't really say how much of a difference each would give separately but combined it's been awesome.

I spoke with Andy and went through a ton of emails with him. He was always professional and very quick to reply. All in all a great guy to deal with. I had to send the TCM back for a few issues but turn around was very quick and it was resolved. The only downside was that I had to remove the TCM/ECM and ship them to MHP but for you guys in the US that probably wouldn't be a big deal since you could overnight there and have MHP overnight back. It seems like Jim is handling a lot of the communication now for MHP so it might be best to contact him for info jim@modernhorsepower.com

Spider - Thanks for the evaluation. And great to hear you are very satisfied with the results.

MHP is a Jeep Garage Vendor so if anyone wants to ask any questions or get some prices about the above or tuning for your Jeep be sure to stop over in their vendor area and post it up.

Re: Modern Horsepower CRD Tuning Review

why waste the time and money in development by modernhorsepower to create a tune for a very limited production vehicle and then on top of it put a price tag on it like they did.. heck i can get a motor only tune for $400 from inmotion which is already proven and has excellent reviews? am i missing something??

Holy &^%$ thats alot of money. Considering I payed $300 for a in car tune for my 06 Grand Prix GT which was supercharged as well. There is no way I will pay the better part of $2000 for a tune. Please pm me the info for the other people who do tunes for this truck. I think I just threw up alittle in my mouth lol
