Brakes for mild off roading
 
It is becoming time for me to put new brakes in my jeep... I was going to put these ones in http://www.jeepgarage.org/f5/brakes-done-9067.html but after taking around I guess you don't want drilled and slotted when you will be doing mudding because they can get packed with mud and will cause problems?

Any recommendations?

Currently I am pretty stock but by next spring I should be getting my RR2.25 lift and put 265's on the stock rims.


Also I know I did spell brakes wrong in the title... Im still not awake for the day lol (So if a mod could help with that part...)

Duralast gold pads work great and have a lifetime warranty. They swap them out as many times as you want as long as they are not metal on metal.

Personally, I think a good quality replacement rotor/pads will go a long way; these WK's have decent brakes on them from the factory and like you said, forget about the looks of the drilled, etc...Anything else, unless you upgrade your calipers/MC rod, etc. is sort of a waste of $$, imo, for these...

You could replace your flexible rubber hoses with braided SS units, for a little better feel though; that's always a worthwhile upgrade.

Not sure if they make ceramic pads for the WK, but they are typically an upgrade, although you have to be sure to 'bed' them right after you first install them, or else they can be squeeky and resemble a warping feeling (chattering)

how much would it be for the braided hoses? approx. And how do you 'bed' pads?

I really would like to keep stock calipers and whatnot... more looking towards pads and rotors.

Here's a good write-up on how-to bed your brake pads...This isn't the one that I was thinking of (just did a quick google), but seems to match.

I'm not sure how much the SS lines are for WK, but generally they are ~$50-75 pair; remember you have a pair up front and a pair in the rear, which *typically* are different lengths (front pair vs. rear pair) and maybe even fittings, so be sure you order the correct ones.

Braided lines make a big difference. I used them on my XJ when i lifted it. You have a pair of lines up front and a single line in the back. The single line drops from the frame to the axle and branches off to both wheels via a hard line along the rear axle. Now at the wheels you have 2 more short rubber lines going from the hard line to the calipers. In total you have 5 rubber lines. Not sure if anyone makes braided lines for the WK but if not you can always have custom lines made. Your fluid is also 4 years old. Not to old but a fluid flush with new clean fluid also goes a long way. Look under the hood see what color the fluid is. It should be clear. If you replace the rubber lines you will have to bleed the system to why not bleed it through with fresh clean fluid while your at it.
