that could be alot of things my man.. theres alot of rotating parts down there in the front end.. could be the drive shaft, brakes.. anything but i feel like thats your wheel bearing, crying or some lubrication and if youre gonna have those checked, might as well get everything else checked as well cause its all gotta come off to get to those bearing, except for the drive shaft.. if it is the drive shaft which i doubt.. i would check the universal joints just to be safe

Bill that sounds very similar to the squeak I have :o and I hate it (been dealing with it for a while). Mine is coming from the front driveshaft (guessing the same part you listed). But don't jump the gun on replacing things yet, make sure thats where the noise is definitely coming from.

I have the same sound too.

Mine is only when in 4wd, not in 2wd. Not all the time either. It seems to be in 4lo on trails it stops.

I have heard that it may be the transfer case mount. I just don't really put the wj in 4wd enough for it to really bother me.

Man it bothers me a lot since I only have 4 all time, N, and 4Lo. I know for my sound it come directly where the front driveshaft mates with front differential. Im guessing its the same problem Bob has. Let me know what part is needed. One mechanic was telling me I would have to change the front drive shaft, I proceeded to walk away after I heard that

Sorry Bob if Im threadjacking.

I would've walked away too!

I am glad to know that the same problem exists with the other 4wd options. It's saying to me that it may very well be that mount. Since we have different transfer cases, and drive shafts.

I even have an air locker in my front axle, and I am 100% sure it's not from there.

This particular mechanic placed it on the lift, had another person in my Jeep and put the car in drive so it rolled . You pretty much hear the noise clearly though. Mine was coming directly from where the differential meets the driveshaft. They put some spray lube on there but it didn't do anything so now Im really curious as to what it is. A part which Bob quoted sounds logical. My question is, how much is something like that and wheres the best place to buy it.

Re: Squeakin Jeep

If it was a bearing mine would do it in 2wd also. I think. Since everything still turns the same in 2 wd, just doesn't have the linkage engaged in the transfer case.

Re: Squeakin Jeep

Wow ,
Thanks for the responses, my jeep is full time 4wd... i was thinking of taking the front D.S out and drive around like that to see if the sound goes away, my T.Case is the 247 so i can do this, i believe that on of the other T.Cases needs the front D.Shaft to be installed or the truck will not go into park.
My front callipers have been upgraded (not by me) to the Akebonos', but the rears are still the Trves. My brakes are all like brand new. And this squeak has been there since i bought the Jeep 1.5 years ago and it hasn't gotten any better or worse, last summer my dad checked the front end (he is a journeyman mechanic) and said it wasn't the wheel bearings, but when we went for a test drive he said the noise was coming from under the console.... so ''m thinking Drive Shaft... i really appreciate all your comments and suggestions.... keep them coming
Bill

Oh crap I realized I called you Bob a few times, sorry about that. :o I do believe a good test is to drive without the front driveshaft. Too bad I can't try that out myself, mainly because Im incredibly lazy.

I definitely think it has to do with the following: driveshaft/output shaft seal/cv joint.

I knoiw it's not the C/V on mine for sur. since they are new.

Let us know if it goes away without the DS in there.

Played with mine today (the jeep) and it only squeeks under power in 4wd. Not in 2wd or when coasting.

Wait am I even referring to that part correctly (just curious)? Is it a C/V joint or U joint?
