Trans roars when cold

'06 4.7 laredo has an interesting issue. When we take off the first time of the day it doesn't want to upshift and sounds loud, like all the engine cooling fans are wide open. I use the auto stick and make it shift but the noise persists for the first 3/4 mile (first stop sign). No codes present and it works fine after that every day. Any ideas?

I have the same thing posted on JU and a chap there says the trans won't shift until the fluid reaches a certain temp. Stay tuned we'll see.

Sometimes for me when I first start it, even if i let it warm up before I put it into gear for a minute. Then I go, it'll sound like an old truck, but like you said after a mile or little less it stops. My tranny shifts fine and etc. Just is fan noise for me.

What's up guys I saw this on JU. My 99 4.7 QD and my 09 4.7 QD2 do this. It's a safety feature in the tranny it wont shift until trans temp is up to a certain temp. It can be annoying at times. I read it in my 99 wj owners manual I'll have to check my 09 manual. Anyway its normal the colder it is the longer it roars.

mine will do it when it is 100 out and when it is 20 out and no matter what temp it always does it until i get to the end of my block. i hope it is just a safety feature, but it is wierd.

Page 292 of my 09 WK owners manual. It will do it based on engine and transmission temp. In Starting and Operating Section under "Overdrive Operation. It says Extreme cold and hot temps will effect it. It is annoying especially if late going somewhere.
