Volt Gauge Question??
Just a quick dumb question with my dad present...ok so I just bought a new battery for the old WJ but my dad says that my alternator might be bad because it's not charging the battery passed the 14 mark on the volt gauge. I thought WTF? that doesn't even make sence but I told him I was going to ask to make him feel better. So my question is where is the needle suppose to be on the volt gauge?

When the WJ is OFF but in the ON position it marks 12.75 volts

And when I turn the WJ ON, the volt gauge is just below 14v

These are Normal readings right?? Or is my dad correct and something is off...

Re: Volt Gauge Question??
Just drove my moms Jeep earlier to the gym (2003 WJ 4.7L H.O.) and thats how the gauges look on hers. Had to go out to check the gauge in the on position, but yeah... same here.

Re: Volt Gauge Question??
 thanks for dad was the one stressing but I started to wonder aswell. Yea because my old battery was junk and couldn't go anywhere without it leaving me stranded somewhere so I bought a new battery. So I guess I'm good as of now, thanks again for the info

Re: Volt Gauge Question??
Yep thats normal. With your car running the alternator should put out about 14.1 volts.

If it starts to spike up and down then your alternator is going out.

Re: Volt Gauge Question??
Aha! I knew it...thanks guys for the info/help. Glad I can finally retire the power cables. With the old POS battery my WJ would leave me stranded everywhere. I bought a Duralast Yellow Top incase anyone's wondering LoL

Re: Volt Gauge Question??
mine does the same the real way if you deffently want to make sure your alternator isnt bad get a voltage meter and test the car while its running and hit the throttle a bit when its idleing it should be at 14.1 14.2 when you hit the throttle it should go up a little bit
