dont laugh....seriously considering an ebay intake

ive been doing some thinking and i just cant bring myself to spend 300 bucks on an intake. ive put intakes on every car ive owned and never seen any substantial gains. when i bought my mustang it had a k&n drop in filter and silencer removed, i spent 300 bucks on a 4" JLT full CAI and felt/heard zero, zilch, nada, absolutly NO difference. when i had my spec V i bought a 60 dollar ebay intake and that one made a huge difference in sound and a noticeable difference in throttle response. when i had my dakota R/T i spend 300 bucks an intake and made NO noticeable gains. now this stupid ebay intake they make for the 5.7 jeep is 45 bucks shipped, so if its worthless/doesnt fit, whatever, its not a big deal i guess. a while back i bought a Bwoody short ram and it didnt fit the 5.7 and i lost out on that deal around 100 bucks because i had to pay a restocking fee and lost out on all the shipping. all im really looking for is the sound anyway and i think this will be good enough.

I wouldnt do it, i would just get the proper intake, bwoody. There are tonnes of this site who have noticed and can prove they got results

Proven to be less then the aFe. Alot of us have been through both, and most who have are now running unboxed aFe's.

My IATs were consistantly higher with the 4" BWoody then they are with my aFe (Hard data = proven). So much for the HAI theory. The reality is that the metal pipe retains heat and heats the air, whereas the plastic aFe doesn't. Even with it sitting in the engine bay, the air that gets in the motor is still cooler then the BWoody that doesn't.

As far as the eBay ones go, if they made a larger Twin cone one out of plastic, that didn't require shroud modification, I'd buy it. The ones currently available are metal, and are only good for sound.

I've bought a few intakes off of ebay before. You can always buy a good filter if the one that comes with it sucks. I think if you look and research and compare, you can get a good intake from ebay.

You are exactly right...but only at idle, in stop and go traffic or when setting still. When driving on the highway or running down the track is when a true CAI is at its best. For one.....aluminum doesnt transfer heat to the air...becasue the air is not in the tubing long enough to transfer ANY heat. I forget the numbers...but it only takes the air like 1/100 of a second to the travel the length of the tube. Now I will agree the Volant is an excellent intake...especially with the extra ram air attachment they sell.

I dunno dude. Considering I ran the record 6.1 N/A run with the open aFe, and Chris ran his 11.3x with the 440 using the same thing, I'm not so sure a "true" CAI is best for the track. I think for the track, volume and velocity are most important, not temperature, so the shorter intakes would have the edge.

I hear what your saying...but did you run a Bwoody on your truck under the EXACT same conditions? Thats the problems with claims of certain times etc. with one truck. I thought I saw a comparison done on a dyno, with the exact same srt, under the exact same conditions and the bwoody produced more hp. Its been awhile since I saw it though.......maybe on the trojan red site

just my 0.02...but when i changed from the AIRAID to the bowwody I def noticed a difference and throttle response and sound...I havent dyno'd it but DAYUM ever since I put 91 ovtance in it and the MHP CMR tune it like a whole new Jeep. Going from the full AIRAID to the BWoody, I must the the woody is a much better application.

MY IAT read b/t 110-115 stock, AIRAID was around 95-105, and with the BWoody I get temp readings around 3-5 degrees higher than outside temp (average has been around 73 degrees) which is fawking cool. And my exhasut sounds so much better with teh MHP CMR and BWoody...again just my 0.02!
