New Dual exhaust lost power !!!!

I just left the shop and I got a custom exhaust. He claimed 16 more horse power but I notice a lost of power right away . My 'y' pipe goes into one flange . Then he ran a glass pack , then it breaks off into 2 pipes. I was expecting two glass packs off each side of the y pipe .will I get more HP from that?

Aww the ol butt dyno, it'll get ya every time! lol Were you going from stock exhaust to this new setup? Seems like you'd still benefit a little bit although what diameter is the glasspack? It's be hard to imagine but the stock mufflers are so big i'd guess it'd be possible it actually has less backpressure than a small diameter glasspack?

I'm suprised that you felt you've lost.

I have a true 2.5" dual all the way through (with balance pipe post cat, pre muff) and think I MAY have lost a tiny bit on initial throttle opening (due to more volume of gas to start moving) but gained a fair bit in the top end.

Lost low end gained top end me thinks.

My glass pack is about as thick as the catalatic conv. But is a little shorter then the old muffler . Should I go back, have him cut the end of the y pipe and run two seperate glass pipes then tubes from there? I lost a lot of take off but gains on the top end. Is that natural?
What if I get a intake. Will that give me a better take off?

Go back and have a calm chat to the guy and ask him his thoughts.

Worst case he welded too close to the cats and clogged them up! (Is that possible?)

What does your y pipe flange look like ?

Does it go into one pipe and then split into both mufflers? Like the picture above

Re: New Dual exhaust lost power !!!!

I don't have the Y any more.
We cut it off just after the cats, and made a flange to weld there. You can see it up in the top picture at the cross member.
Therefore, its a TRUE dual.

EDIT:
Just found a pic of up the front, but it's not really very clear what we did.
it may help though.
Would make much more sense if you were under your car looking at these pictures :)
