ATTN people with 20s or srt reps etc... snow tires

I was looking through some of my saved pics and saw this one and it made me wonder, do any of you guys with nice wheels and street tires (like srt reps or SRT8 owners or similar) use them year round or put snow tires on them? Or do you guys swap out for a set of winter wheels and tires.

It would be pretty cool to have a summer and winter set of SRT Reps and some meaty studded snows on the winter set.

You'd just have to get some nitto grapplers. They are pretty much lowprofile large rim AT/MT type tires.

I switch them out. I have Firestone Destination A/T's for winter.

I know Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrains would be a good choice but i have not heard much as far as reviews on how they are in the snow.

I am just wondering for the sake of being curious.

I have a buddy with them in Portland on his lifted commander... When they had the big snow storm a couple years ago he was out playing in the snow. He said he was pretty much the only thing out on the road lol.

Thats sweet. I used to be that guy when i had my lifted XJ.

I just wanted to see if there were people that take their srt8s or lowered or street modded wks out in the snow with 20s and snow tires.

Swap em. Firstly, the GY runflats suck camel balls in the snow and rain. Nitto 420's are a good deal better, but wide tires are just not suitable for snow. You want a smaller, deeper contact patch.

On my excursions to the Great White North I haul em on my custom rack and mount em in the in-laws garage. The NYS thruway is usually well plowed, no point ruining my Hakka SUV5 studdeds.

he ahs a 426 and other stuff now but i met him at a meet there was snow around and he said he was fine with the ice tires.

Thats a nice setup. Nice rack too. :D What kind of wheels are your winter tires on? Any pics on the jeep?

pics, these show up ok ? http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=10425

Hakkas are mounted on the original chrome Moduflex 17's. I forget the size, 225 or 235/65's I think.

Deep snow performance is not improved with the studs, obviously. They shine on the real slippery stuff. I'm a veteran of North East temperature inversions, where it can be -20 celsius..... and raining. Yes rain, H20 in liquid form.

Just this past week I was talking to a buddy in Montreal, and it was hotter and more humid there than in NY. Go figure, mother nature is a bitch.

Anyway, the Nitto's, an all season, in 255 size have tremendous understeer in snow. The narrower 225 Hakkas bite much better.

I bit the bullet and went for the studdeds because I do this run to Canada with wife and kid on board. There is no price too great for the safety of my family at highway speeds. I estimate the studs give me 15% or greater contact security than a non studded in icy conditions.

I experienced the ice storm of the century back in '97. Some crazy assed shit. Ever been on a skating rink in your sneakers right after the zamboni got done cleaning ? A little extra effort to mount the wheels when I'm there, but I can push the vehicle close to normal speeds with little concern.

Oh i did not realize you did not have an SRT. I see now its a Limited.

This past winter i had my Stock Fortera HL tires on my Wk and my wife would take it to work when it would snow bad because she has a farther commute. I put a set of Studded Firestone Winterforce snow tires on HD Tuning wheels on her '02 Dodge stratus and damn did it bite hard in the snow. I loved it. She still feels more confident in the jeep in the snow and so do it but i.

I am almost considering putting the same tire on my WK for winter this year but i think i am going to opt for the General Grabber AT2 for year round great tires. Snow flake rated for sever weather and 60k mile warranty and stud able if i choose to keep them winter only. If i want in the future i can keep them for winter and get some nice summer tires but i am used to muds year round so a nice AT will be fine with me year round. If i get snow specific tires i will pick out a pimpin summer tire. lol

I have not had one problem with the runflats in the snow. I have the nitto 420's right now...so we'll see this winter. But if you get 20" wheels...keep the stockers and mount them in the winter going by where you live....
