Key-off drain excessive on 2005 Grand
I have a 2005 Grand Limited with a key-of battery drain problem. Everthing functions fine, but when you turn the key off the drain through fuse 27 is almost 1 amp. It cycles from about .5 amp for 10 seconds then goes up to about 1 amp for 4 seconds then does it all over again. I can't find any spec, but I think this circuit should run closer to 0.01 amp with the key off. Any ideas?? Thanks--Steve in Iowa

Hi Steve,

I don't know what fuse 27 is exactly (I am in Oz and ours are quite different electrically), but I had a similar problem, took us a long time to find, and was eventually traced to a faulty rear seat roof mounted DVD player.

Here's a link that might help with identifying the fuses protected components. Look at the section at the very end, IOD circuits.

The drain your seeing may be normal. Some of these components may go into a sleep state at some point in time while others remain online.

Good luck with the troubleshooting.

The Jeep is used on a regular basis. If it sits for 2-3 days the battery will be too low to crank. The battery has been replaced & kept charged. I think it has something to do with CAN (controller area network) not going into sleep mode. As much as I hate to do it, it looks like I'm going to have to take it to a dealer shop.
