A clunk in the front suspension...

Jeep dealer in Sydney says ball joints, recommended mechanic says RHS tie-rod, steering specialist says front sway-bar D bushings but could also be steering rack as there is a clunk when the steering wheel is jerked (engine off)... any thoughts?

i say DIFF bushings, there are 2 or three points where the diff mounts to chassis. there is a pressed in bush in each of those. i hear , if the jeep on a lift. get the front wheels going a bit and hit the brake. you will actuqally see the diff move iof these are bad.

they need pressed in/out .

other bushings are cheap too and known to fail. but truly i have heard of all then above/

mileage and abuse level?

Hey Rob, 35,000 miles... no abuse or off-road, thought it might be anti-sway D-bushings...

Re: A clunk in the front suspension...

with 35K, unless really abused prolly not diff mounts but muellge had them go on an srt8 at 3x,000 miles.

d-bushing = the bar mounts? the ones in the front in the middle of the bar

OR the end links the connect the end of the bar to the spindle?

if its the the first one - new dealer ones are less than 10 per side.

but to me the weak link is the end links. so sway bar end to spindle. i would start there.

Re: A clunk in the front suspension...

Mechanic says orginal bushing design changed, need new brackets as well, 1 hour labor, total AU$365... yikes!

Re: A clunk in the front suspension...

thats insane bro.

how much of that is labor?

because seriously its 4 bolts and about 10 minutes even if you never did it before.

Re: A clunk in the front suspension...

Hey guys, clunk fixed! It was the D-bushings on the anti-sway bar... $365 included 2 new bushings, 2 new brackets and labor, seems a lot but parts for Jeeps (and Jeeps) are EXPENSIVE in Australia. Full refund on the way from the out of state dealer I bought from...

thanks for your advice, you were correct!

I have a 2014 JGC SRT and it's doing the same thing, every time a go thru a speed bump I heart a noise in the front area. Sometimes when I break and then accelerate I can hear the same noise.

Do you guys think is the same thing?

Ok, so I took my Jeep to the dealer so they can have a look a the noise in the suspension. They called me back a few hours later so I can go and test my car again, they said they adjusted some suspension related things. I still hear a noise when going thru bumps, more noticeable in slow speeds. Took it back so they can keep looking.

Will let you know the result.

Yeah I'm curious because I have a small knock when slow breaking or start accelerating.
