Towing with a jeep?

I was just looking around at justforjeeps and stumbled accross this auxiliary fan for the 2007 4.7L like I have... do I need this to tow what I want to tow? http://justforjeeps.com/aufankit.html

I want to be able to tow my buddy's old 72 jeep j2500... we are lifting mine and his to do some off roading but instead of driving them both 10 hours to new mexico or where ever we go... Plus it would save on gas and what not..

you may need a tranny cooler, and you would certainly need a brake controller.

Re: Towing with a jeep?

I want to know where that is installed. There is a clutch fan and a electric fan on my 4.7L and I tow. I don't want to get this and then find out i have it already and/or can't get it in.

Here's mine towing a 15-18ft trailer i think it is...I have a 180* tstat in and It didn't get any hotter than normal while driving but when i was backing up and in reverse it warmed up abit - maybe where aux fan comes into play? Also I did that without electric brakes. I just got a 300$ controller from my step dad since his new 2500HD has it built in. I just need to get a 7pin setup wired in and get it mounted and such.

Sent an email via contact us there at justforjeeps.com and in about 15min i got a reply about the mounting instructions for it. What it is is a clutch fan... which if you have the tow group you have it already installed. Which mine must have already! So woot.

I am not sure I would want to be in front of you if you were towing that trailer loaded, and you had to stop suddenly, without the controller installed.

Re: Towing with a jeep?

Couple things about that...

I wasn't 100% loaded to capacity. There prolly was only 10% of what it really could haul on my return trip(in the pic it was completely full with furniture and other large items prolly 60% of what it could really haul but I only had that for 5 miles to deliver to storage). Also.. where I live is decently flat and with the light load it wasnt bad + i gave myself double the room when behind someone/something.

but that'll all change come monday... i get my controller and it changed in wiring done up!

I should also note, even with the heavy load it was quite stable and wasn't too bad pulling in heavy cross winds - no snaking at 60+mph. Braking... I could tell it was there, but then again I gave myself lots more room to brake. Once that controller is in it'll be a cake walk.
