Lights...Behind the grille!

So i finally got around to installing my off road lights behind the grille on my Wk.

I have not wired them fully yet (making my own HD wiring harness) but i have had this set of Hella 500FF series 7" off road lights for over a year that i saved after selling my XJ. They have 55w bulbs in them now but i might do 100w bulbs, and in the future i can convert them to HIDs if i have the $.

I mounted them to the underside of the top of the stock grille. The mesh grille i made for it will help protect them and allow more light to pass through the grille.

I used some 2"x2" spacers i made to drop them low enough to be centered roughly in the same pattern line as the headlights and high beams, kinda stepping down.

I will wire them up this week. I did have to make clearance holes in the underside of the hood so i carefully cut some 1.5" holes with my cordless drill and hole saw. That was nerve wracking.

These will be great on all the country back roads i drive regularily late in the evening going to and from the barn where we keep our horses.

Thats def going to be bright. But why not just go with HID lows and highs, unless you already have them. Xentec HIDs are dirt cheap on Ebay, I just picked up a set for I wanna say under $50 shipped for my GF's VW.

Thanks guys. I really like them too. It looks really bad ass seeing me coming up behind you in the rear view during the day. I cant wait to see them on at night, though i think they might be a little bit too bright for anything in city.

I did not want to do HID Lows, highs and fogs like everyone else because alot of people seem to be haning issues with them and them not working and i dont really want to get involved in that much wiring. I had these lights already so they did not cost me anything as they were a christmas gift 2 years ago. 100w bulbs for these are only $30 any way and the wiring harness i am building is nice a heavy duty to handle it.

That and i wanted to be different and i love the look.

THey even make 50watt HID. I have a pair as my High beams.

They are bright as hell and I usually when the head to head high beam contest with oncoming traffic.

Unfortunately they are not very focused and cause a lot of glare.

For $50 or less...I recommend them.

Oooo I never thought about putting light in the grille. I might do that to my Jeep if I got room in there.
