Brake light acting crazy

I am having problems with one of the brake lights. It started when the light worked fine with the headlights off, but once you turned them on, the brake light wouldn't work. A mechanic replaced all of the sockets which have a tendency of burning and melting, and it worked fine for a while. It is doing the same thing again. I checked the sockets, and they look fine. The bulbs appear to be fine. There are times when none of the lights work on that side. Then they mysteriously work. Does this sound electrical? If so, is there anything I can look for to try and fix it myself. I can't really afford to take it to someone to look at. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

My husband and I just messed with it and it appears to be working for now. It has something to do with the sockets and the connections. This unfortunately is just one of many problems I am having with my 1999 Grand Cherokee Limited. I need to have the fan relay replaced and the blend doors fixed on the air/heat system. Then, all of a sudden, the driver's side window came off track and slides down by itself. I think my car is possessed by satan. I love it but hate it as well. I wish I didn't have so many problems because I really do love it. : (

i had some of the same problems with my old 99. i ignored the blend doors because of the cost to fix (i was a poor 16 year old at the time) my light problem was from bad connectors as well so i went to a junk yard and found different plugs to use. i put them on and they worked fine until i trashed the jeep on a curb lol

Do you mean the sockets the lights go into? Or the wires that connect to the lights? As far as the blend doors go, I am not sure what I am going to do. I know you can buy those kits to fix it, but then I will have to get someone who knows what they are doing to fix it. Someone else told me the doors can be switched over to one side depending on the weather, but then you can only have it one temp. That would only be a temp fix. I hate that I am having so many problems with it. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

i replaced the connectors on the factory wires, not the connectors on the tailight wires. the kit to fix the doors is called the heater treater and is available on ebay. i think you only have to remove the glovebox to do it.

What exactly is the problem you have with the blend doors? Do you have the manual system or the automatic (with the dual zone temp control)?
Regarding the window falling down, this is a well known problem with the WJ. There is a small plastic part holding the window pane in position, and this part usually breaks, letting the window fall down. There is a replacing part available, made from metal. There are some more Threads about this written before with info where to buy it. When you need it, i have the step by step instructions how to get the window regulator out of the door.

Hi Frank. As far as the blend doors, I have the dual zone system. The heat stopped working on it and I ran a diagnostic on it and it said the blend door was to blame. I plan on getting the repair kit and having someone do it for me. I have been told once this is fixed, it won't have the dual zone anymore, which really doesn't matter to me. How difficult is it to fix the window? As you can see, I am a woman who doesn't know much about cars. My car is having so many problems and I am trying to deal with them one by one. At the top of the list is to fix the radiator fan relay, then the blend doors and then the window. (I have the window rigged up right now where it doesn't go down by itself.) Any help would be great !!! I have received so much help since I have been on this forum.

From a previous Thread i copied the adress where to find the metal part which normally breaks on the window regulator and how to change it.
Seems to be 30 bucks for the part. Ofcourse its better to open the door first to confirm that only this part is the problem before buying anything.

Regarding the cooling fan relay, your jeep has the electrical cooling fan? It doesn´t work, or is constantly on? For the electrical cooling fan, the relay is located underneath the right hand headlight. Jeep manual says to remove the bumper to get access, but i red in a Thread overhere that they just had cut a hole in the plastic underneath the headlight to get access to the relay.
