Who traded in a Jeep for a WK2?

I noticed a lot of people here say they traded in older Jeeps when buying their WK2s. If you did, what did you trade in, and why (apart from Duh - it's a WK2)?

Me? I traded in an '06 Liberty Renegade D. The D stands for light bar and more. Why did I trade it in? I've been watching the progress of the WK2 since it was unveiled in April '09 and liked what I saw. I wasn't planning to trade in the KJ but with its extended warranty about to expire and noticing some issues kept popping up, I figured now was the time before it depreciates much more.

All in all I like the KJ. The 4x4 system was great, the looks were decent with its flat hood (no frog eyes), tall grille, and fake bolt-on fender flares. I could never get it stuck anywhere and its turning radius was ridiculously tight. I didn't like the uncomfortable interior, but that didn't bother me much as it was what it was. What did bother me was the gutless 3.7L and worse the just awful 42RLE transmission. I couldn't climb a hill at 45mph without it lugging, downshifting, revving, then lugging again. Horrible. A bad engine and lousy transmission ruined what could have been a good car.

I'll be trading in my 04 WJ for the WK2 Overland with ORII package. After seeing the cool WK2 commercial dedicated to the skidplates last night, I'm even more excited to get that bad boy when it's released from Eldon Yard, whereever that is.

I traded in a jeep with skid plates for one with a plastic undercarriage cover. :(

...and those skid plates on the KJ were scraped to hell. Maybe I should put some on the WK2, or else I'll have to be a little less cavalier in the woods....

I'll be trading in an '03 KJ Limited for my WK2. It'll have about 130K+ miles or so on it. I'll miss it - it's (surprisingly) been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and goes anywhere (once you replace the stock tires :)). I never even had anything 'break' until just last year when the water pump went, and again recently when the pinion seal finally wore out. I don't like the current generation too much at all, and am not willing to wait around to see what the next generation will be like (and rumor is that may not even be a next generation). So WK2 it will be.

I'm trading in a Patriot Limited for an Overland WK2.

Absolutely no comparison between the two; the Patriot is pretty good for a mini-ute, but I don't expect I'll shed many tears about the swap.

Traded in '07 Patriot Limited. I wanted 4 wheel drive and a slightly more luxurious vehicle.

i traded my 08 GC limited, got just about what i owed on it and my payment didnt really go up much so i figured why not? the first time i saw the new jeeps i fell in love, i had to have it. You only live once and with the impending end of the world in 2012 (kidding, i hope) i figured this might be my last chance....

I traded in my 06 Libby Limited that had about 47k miles on it for my new GC limited. I had a 3 inch Frankenlift kit and a full set of armor/rock rails and some Good Year Silent Armor AT's on the Libby and it was a great vehicle that could go anywhere and do anything a Wrangler could do and there was never really anything wrong with it other than it was too small for me, had no power and was terrible on gas.. Dealership gave me 13K for it and that was fine with me.....

Traded in a 06 Black SRT8 for my new baby. Obviously, I loved the speed & power of the SRT8 but I had this truck at the dealership 8 times trying to fix a stupid EVIC error that would never go away. Replaced every TPMS sensor & the main module. Error went away for about 50 miles :(
Anyway, I went from getting about 240 miles on a tank to 450-480 a tank! Very happy w/my new ride, just can't race people anymore. I guess we all have to grow up eventually (or so my wife claims)

As a former XJ owner, I like the boxy looks of the current generation for the most part. They look great from the 1/4 angle, but not so hot from the 3/4 angle. There will be a next-gen, but it will be a crossover. That doesn't mean it won't be as capable as the current one, though. It will be based on the Fiat D-Evo platform (an enlarged C-Evo), but only the platform will come from Fiat. The design will be all Jeep. Source: somewhere on allpar.

Sounds nice. Got any pics, maybe on lostkjs? Great point about the gas mileage. I averaged 16mpg in the KJ. I would have bumped up to probably 18 or 19 with a 3.6L, or down to 15 with the 5.7L in the WK2. That made going to the 5.7L an easier decision - I wasn't going to be spending much more than I was already used to with the KJ. Also, the KJ being too small was another reason we moved up. We don't have kids but have two big dogs and lots of camping gear.

Ugh. The TPMS in my KJ drove me nuts. Every single time the weather made a quick change, like when a cold front approached, the change in barometric pressure caused the TPMS alert to go off. Happened dozens of times over the 4.5 years I had the car.

Traded in a 08 Overland for our WK2. Figured since the lease was up in 3 months and the dealer gave us more than we owed, plus the $1500 rebate it made the decision so much easier.
