Ball Joint Lubricant?

Hey All,

As I was working on my manifold I happened to notice the rubber sleeve that fits over the upper ball joint on the driver side was cracked. I want to put some more oil or lubricant in there.

What should I use?

Thanks!

it'll do no good. You need to replace it

If you replace it, go with a MOOG BJ with zerk fitting. That should out last any sealed BJ unit.

Well for the time being until I can afford to get it replaced what can I put in there for the next few weeks.

axle grease.

good thick axle grease.

uncommon today; very common 10+ years ago.

my 07 WK has ZERO grease fittings from the factory

my 98 XJ has about 8

go to ANY auto parts and they will have a small tub of grease. like everyone said its mostly a waste as how you gonna get so0mething thick like almost peanut butter to stay in a torn boot,

or go to jiffy lube or similar ask them to try to fill it with their grease gun ,

Bought some grease gonna feed it in through the crack...just a little. There is still grease on there. Just want to be safe.

Then I ordered some replacement boots.

Vehicles now are being sold as "low maintenance" a part is designed to function for about 60,000 miles then wear. Over time its almost cheaper..some greasable joints even when greased alot dont last long. Its supposed to be better.
