crappy leather WK steering wheel anybody?

I picked up my WK about a month ago with 85k and noticed that the top of the steering wheel was starting to peel. since I constantly go on several hour trips and usually drive with my hand at the top of the wheel, now at 90k it's gotten much worse. anybody else have this problem or did I just end up with a janky steering wheel?

these pictures were all taken today, I don't have any of it when I first got it. but the damaged area is now roughly 5x bigger than it was.

mine is about three times as bad...107K miles. my new one arrived today from just4jeeps and i am taking it to be put right now.

its a very common problem, and unless under warranty you are going to be buying a new one

Welcome to the club...mine did it as well. I changed mine out to an Overland wheel. You can find a new wheel though much cheaper than justforjeeps. Go to stevewhiteparts.com and they are much cheaper for a new wheel. Yours looks like light greystone which is part #1AQ661D1AE.

Welcome to the world of leather steering wheels. All of them are going to do it.

You should see the KJ's with 168 grand on it.

Mine is the same also. Very poor quality.

I have to say I was very unimpressed with the quality for a vehicle that listed for over $40K.

I agree. that's junk for what the vehicle cost. my WJ has around 130 on it and shows absolutely no wear on it like this one does.

You guys are aware that there are $60-80,000 BMWs, Audis, and M-Bs that do the exact same thing, right?

I think its all dependent on the driver, oils, grease etc. on their hands etc. Mine is perfect after 4 years and its the leather SRT wheels that all the srt guys complain that they peel...

When I bought my 06 GCO, with 48000 miles on it, the wheel looked like some of these. Mine has the wood grain top part and it had a big chunk missing out of it. After pricing a new one, I opted for the Wheelskins (http://www.wheelskins.com/) cover. Cost was about $50. Great alternative, IMO. I'll use the new wheel money for some more mods, LOL.
