Complete Detailing of 07' WK Limited

Finally got started on the detailing of my WK today and didn't get nearly as far as I had hoped to. Managed to remove a bunch of trim pieces (rear step pad, roof rack mounts, front lip, lic plate) to make buffing a little easier without a lot of taping. Next up was using a highly concentrated APC to clean up the wheel wells, the rear bumper where the step pad was removed, the lower front pumper and rockers. Also used the same APC at a lower concentration to clean up the door jams and around the rear hatch. After all that, finally got around to actually washing the Jeep and after blowing off the excess water and towel drying, I was ready to call it a day.

First thing tomorrow I hope to be able to clay bar the entire Jeep (paint, windows, lights, plastic and every other square inch) and then take a good look at the condition of the paint before deciding how to proceed. I was hoping to get away with just a single polish, sealer and wax. Judging by some of the pics below, I might be in for a full 3 stage polishing. Some of the damage is going to have to wait till I get touch-up paint before it can be addressed properly. :(

APC is All Purpose Cleaner and most brands that sell detailing products have some sort of APC in their lineup.

I tend to use meguiar's APC+ which I purchase by the gallon. It can be diluted 4:1 with water for use as a degreaser and tar remover or mixed up at 10:1 as a mild strength cleaner. I also throw a couple oz in the wash bucket when I want to remove all the existing wax/sealant on a vehicle in prep for polishing the paint.

I am seriously thinking about picking up a new one and maybe attempting to wrap the old one in vinyl and clear coat at some point over the winter months .....

Almost forgot just how deceptively big the outside of a WK really is! Almost got the entire thing clayed but have fallen way behind the schedule I'd set for getting this done. :D

No doubt now, this is going to take a full 3 step polishing and even that won't eliminate some of the existing paint damage.
