Smart Brake System - Rain Brake Support

From the Jeep website under Features & Specs / Safety & Security / Accident Avoidance: “Front wipers activate when raindrops are detected and a new smart brake system helps dry the brake rotors on wet roads.”

Also, near the back of Jeep GC brochure, under Safety and Security Features, there is a small paragraph on Rain-sensing Wipers and Rain Brake Support, but it is listed as late availability.

My Overland should be here next week and my dealer gave me an Options Report. It lists the Rain Sensitive Windshield Wipers as installed standard equipment on my Overland, but does not mention the Rain Brake Support.

Does anyone know if the Rain Brake Support is currently available, and if so, can you tell if it helps?

Thanks :)

Re: Smart Brake System - Rain Brake Support

Rain sensing wipers are indeed on current Overlands. The one I have sitting outside right now has it.

As for rain brake support, basically, that's a trick of the braking system. The idea is that when it thinks you are going to stop quickly, it pulses the ABS system once so the pads can wipe the water off the rotors. I couldn't tell you if it's installed, as it's the sort of thing you'd never notice. It's nice to put in literature as a feature, but in the real world its actual utility is dubious. Theoretically good to have, but of very little practical use.

The rainy day braking feature is the part that's late availability. I'm not sure if it's available yet. It's actually the windshield wiper usage that triggers it. It works just like Tecnosavant describes.

I appreciate the info, I like the fact that it works unnoticed.

If anyone can confirm if this is a current or future feature, please let us know.

Thanks :)

If it is transit to your dealer, you should see the vehicle on the dealers website. Click on the vehicle, on the next page you should see a link for "Window Sticker"

? Has been available since at least mid-2013.
There is a note that it doesn't function if the wipers are set to any of the intermittent modes, just the hi and lo steady wipe. Older models had no setting and no indication for it happening.
