Manheim Auction Current Values vs Kelly Blue Book

So, getting close to closing on my 2011, and the dealer says KBB trade-in value doesn't matter, but instead he has to follow Manheim.

Haven't heard of Manheim, what's the consensus on this approach to determining trade-in value?

Never heard of it either...I got numbers from both KBB and Nada and used that as my guide when asking for my trade. The first number they offered was no good...I walked away and they called me back two days later and gave me a much better deal. Not sure if that would work if you've already signed paperwork though!

Manheim is a large dealer auction site in central PA. For the most part, dealers want fresh used vehicles on their lot, not ones that have higher miles. So, they ship them off to the auction to get whatever they can. It's best to deal on the price of the new Jeep, and then determine if you can accept a low ball amount for what you are driving at present. You shouldn't mix the two, or you're at a big disadvantage. There's no such thing as "overallowance" for your used vehicle!

Schmoe, you are single handedly causing a world's shortage of petroleum.

They're talking 15 to 15k trade-in, here's a close approximation at KBB

http://www.kbb.com/used-cars/jeep/gr...condition=good

Direct linking at NADAGuides sucks.

so nada says 15800, KBB says 16500...tell them youll take 16 for the jeep...if they say no, try to sell the jeep for 16K...people would jump on that, since private party value is 19.5K...good luck!!

He landed at 15,500, which is pretty darn close.
