4.7 using oil

Until a short time ago i never had to add oil in between the oil service intervals. But just before my last oil change i saw the level below the normal band. Now almost 4000 Km further the level was below the normal band again and i had to add a bid more then one liter. No external leaks observed. Tomorrow i want to remove the resonator box to see if there are any abnormal oil traces in the throttle body. Anyone an idea where this sudden oil use can come from? The car has now 125.000 Km on the clock.

Re: 4.7 using oil

I noticed something similar just the other day Frank. I did an oil change a couple of months back, new filter as well. Decided to check all my fluids as a matter of course and noticed that the oil level had dropped to just below the 'add' line. Topped it up but only with about quarter of a litre. No leaks anywhere either and I've checked everywhere.

Re: 4.7 using oil

Just removed the resonator box, but didnīt find any significant amount of oil in the throttle body. Now only the both cilinder heads cover breathers enter into the resonator box. The PCV valve has a separate line going into the inlet duct after the TB. Maybe the PCV valve doesnīt function properly and the oil can escape overthere. Ofcourse the problem can be with a piston oil scraper ring or inlet/exhaust valve oil seal, but i will start with a new PCV valve (is at least the cheapest one of all). If that doesnīt help, will remove all ignitors to see if there is any carbon buildup on any of them. :(

I'd look at your coolant as well. And also, does your exhaust have a blueish tint? Both of those could be the signs of a bad head gasket. Just throwing random ideas out there. Hope you get it sorted!
