How do you like Garmin Nav in 430N?

Compare with standalone units too if you used any of those.

Seems like a decade behind SYNC navs. It isn't terrible... it isn't great. Functional, not elegant is interface.

I played with one for about an hour at the dealership....it isn't bad at all, but I wouldn't say it's the best! I personally like the Garmin interface; it does enough for me.

So far I'm liking it. Works pretty much just like my nuvi 660. There are some subtle differences but nothing significant. Biggest visible difference is the screen resolution. My nuvi 660 has a smaller screen (4.3") but it is sharp and clear. The Jeep's display is larger at 6.5" but the apparent resolution is worse. It appears that they've just scaled up the standard Garmin display and the screen is doing a lot of pixel interpolation. Just looks fuzzy. It is pretty readable though so I'm OK with it. As far as routing is concerned, I've only hit one difference so far. For some reason this new nav wanted me to take an exit from a major road and then immediately take the entrance right back onto it, rather than just staying on the road. Obviously a dumb routing situation that needed some human judgement to ignore. You just can't follow these things blindly.

Does anyone know if you can ground the wire that sense if you are in park in order to be able to use it on the move? Do the ones with voice sync allow you to manual input data on the move?

Dogface,

I don't think it uses an analog signal for that. I think it comes over the bus. There's a device out there that lets you defeat that, though. I think it's called the LockPick.

Terrible website, and doesn't show the latest headunits yet, but here's the location to read up on the device:

Sent the lockpick guys an e-mail 2 weeks ago asking if this worked with the new 2011 430n but got no answer.

I am going to send them one also. It would be nice to get a yes, no or it's coming!

lots of newer NAV/DVD units have way more than the Parking Brake wire. MOST also have a speed alarm. Once my WK hits 16 miles an hour a popup used to come on and turn off the DVD. Pioneer AVIC f90BT upgraded to 3.0.

its defeatable but a bit more than grounding a wire.

I just got this back from a message I sent to Lockpick support.

Hello,

You would use our mygig lockpick. This can be found on our website at http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG.htm

Thanks

I like the 430N... it does everything I need it to. And the 3-D junction view is pretty slick.

One thing I've noticed is that the screen mode (daytime vs. nighttime) never updates automatically (even when I have it on the automatic setting). I have to manually change it in the navigation settings every time, which is annoying.
