More Alcantara work...

I've decided to bite the bullet and get the dash covered. I've ordered up another two rolls of alcantara. Started on the cover below the gauges. Here's progress so far...

I masked off the rubber, to prevent glue getting onto it

The edge where the steering wheel adjuster sits, was admittedly a bit rough at this stage, but I've since tidied it up:thumbsup:

This was a wee bit more challenging than the A pillars, due to the dips in the surface. Other than that, it was a straight forward job. I would like to do the top section of the steering wheel next and the B pillars (once I figure out how to remove them).

It does look odd only having one part done, but it will take some time to do the whole job.

Looks great! Was thinking about getting one of my other dashboards flocked, but it does look rather good wrapped in alcantara!

Thanks James! I'm planning to do the headliner at some stage, with a moulded punisher skull in it.

Looks awesome!! I went and picked up some suede to do my pillars after looking at this. What are you using as far as an adhesive?? I have the spray 3M 90 stuff i think its called but i have had some trouble getting it to stick to the D pillars.

I just used some flooring adhesive that I nicked from work:worried:. It's the type used for carpet underlays and carpet tiles.

I've found that if you leave the glue for a few seconds to 'go off' it will help when sticking. The glue gets stronger when exposed to air. I also found out, that it needs to be an even, light coating. If you miss a bit, it's liable to sag.

I just sprayed the whole area I was covering and laid the fabric onto it. The edges I had to do as I went. Spraying glue as I folded the edges over.

ok sounds good. I am probably going to try and peel back the places that arent tacked down and add some glue there. I had some trouble with the concave surfaces as this suede doesnt stretch even with some heat. I am just gonna try and make it work somehow tho!! haha

You should be ok doing that. With the concave bits, you need to beat the material into submission, you can be fairly rough with it, the tools Ron (S.O.T.I.) posted are ideal. Heat does nothing, I tried that too.
