Lesson learned!

We ordered in the beginning of September and were told to expect delivery around the end of October.

Well, I started tracking the vehicle (thanks Milous!), and discovered it was built and scheduled for Oct 9th delivery! However, that was right in the middle of my vacation which started Oct 1st.

Sooo....I talked my wife into delaying our departure for a week (we were going to go away for the first week and stay home for the second) so we could take our new Overland for a nice 700 mile highway break in ride.

She agreed, but once the Jeep arrived at a storage yard 70 miles from me, it stopped moving. Delivery slipped to 11th...oooook, a few days shaved off our vacation trip, no prob :o

We cleaned the garage to make room.

Then it slipped to the 12th.

We cleaned the garage some more.

I tracked down the road carrier (United Trucking), who assured me it would be delivered "within 24 hours" (this was on the 11th).

Wife --> :slapfight: Me

Now we started making room in the garage for the wife's Wrangler we'll buy when they put in the Pentastar - (I had to do something to placate an increasingly pissed wife).

On the 12th, they said the 14th, maybe the 15th

The salesman told me there was nothing they could do. I offered to pay a private carrier (whoever they use) to go get the damn thing. They weren't interested. I begged the sales manager to do whatever he could, but he essentially told me not to get my hopes up. I told him the deal might be lost if I can't get it in time.

That day, I checked every dealer within 150 miles. NOBODY had one in stock until I found a large dealership who said they had several of the Overlands I wanted in the same storage yard, and would be happy to go get one for me. I made it quite clear that this was a cash transaction, with no trade in, and explained why I was in such a rush. All they had to do was match the price on my existing deal. It told the salesman it was his lucky day :)

I didn't want to back out of the previous deal I made, but I really had little choice at that point (My 02 Grand has a passanger window that won't go up, and I didn't get it fixed because I was expecting to have the new one in time.)

Then the second dealer started playing games. It went from "we'll pick it up for you right away, and call you back in an hour" to no call after 7 hours. I called them back and the salesman was gone for the day

This morning I called, and they said, "oh yes, give us an hour, and we'll call you back". That was 6 hours ago.

I just got a call from the original dealership sales manager, who twisted some arms, and it's going to be at the dealership tonight!!! I suspect the possibility of losing the deal might have helped motivate them to actually do something.

The lesson here is DO NOT COUNT ON YOUR JEEP BEING DELIVERED BY A CERTAIN DATE, NO MATTER HOW CLOSE IT IS! A week in a nearby parking lot is not uncommon. Like the trucking company in Brooklyn told me "Ey! We ain't FedEx ya know! It'll get there when it gets there" and don't blame me if you don't listen and it costs you a new Wrangler.

Glad you're FINALLY getting it. Ford did that to me when I bought my 04 Harley Edition. It was the first one the dealer had sold. It was 3 weeks LATE! I was DIEIN' to get it. I also needed to turn my old Super Duty into a work truck for another crew.

It seems like in this day and age as bad as Chryco is hurting they would have busted ass to get it to you. Glad to hear everything turned out okay...... better late than never.

the dealership i used in NY told me that even though the shipping point was right down the road (buffalo) they could NOT go and get the truck, even though it was sitting there for days.
they said that they had tried once to pick up from the yard there and were looking right at the car with all the paperwork etc. and they still couldn't have it.
strange how that works.

What really got me was that the second dealership offered to go get it from the yard. Another member here had their dealership go get his from the same yard. So at least in my case, sounded like the original dealership just didn't feel like it, despite offering to do it on my dime.

She's really a sweetheart, I just f***d up on this one :)

(Just between us though, I would still do it again if the Jeep was coming in during my vacation. No way would I want the ONLY Overland sitting at the dealer lot being used a demo for a week!).
