power steering moan on idle lock

hi guys, have an 04 v8 overland, thing is the pas pump moans and no/ low assistance at adle speed. if eng rpm are raised noise increases but still no assistance, once moving off and centering steering all starts working fine. checks i have made are as follows, level correct no bubbling of fluid when locking over so presume no air in system, correct oil being used, belt temsion ok, hoses clear and not binding or touching. i am at a loss at the mo anyone have any ideas ?

thanks

Re: power steering moan on idle lock

If this just suddenly started, most probably your pump is at the end of its live. If you did change the fluid or opened the system somewhere, it still could be some air. If you have the hydraulic cooling fan, you could remove the cooling liquid temp sensor connector ( in between airco compressor and generator) and the fan should go into high speed, removing any air in the system. Also moving the steering wheel several times from stop to stop will help.
