News from the road!

Folks, I'm reporting from the road after finally getting my GC late last night. It's some story, which I'll write up when I have a chance.

After driving 300 miles from NY to PA I am impressed with the 430N. The unit rerouted me a couple of times after recieving traffic updates in the NY area, and man was it right on. I overrode the unit and kept going on my original route at one point, and not only was construction going on on the road it tried to divert me from, but the map actually had little construction icons on the portion of the road being worked on. This was for a large bridge pothole that the workers told me appeared just an hour before. Even without a dead reckoning gyro, it never lost track of me even on congested side roads.

The only glitch I've found thus far is pause/play of mp3's seems to get confused if you alternate between the onscreen and steering wheel controls.

More to come...

Thats great to hear about the traffic updates. I thought only the 730N had that ability. The traffic info was one of the few things I was disappointed about but it sounds like that wont be an issue with the 430N. Thanks for the post!

Tell us about the Jeep itself

Try driving through the Chicago/Gary corridor; the Garmin unit I use in my non-Jeep truck has traffic alerts and half the time it shows Do Not Enter symbols (i.e. like "don't even bother going this way", LOL) along that I-94 route when traffic is so bad. When there are accidents it will show little wreckage icons too.

Are we saying the 430N has Sirius Traffic integrated with the Garmin Nav.? If so Chrysler is not advertising it anywhere.....hopefully so, because the two would be so far advanced of any of the 730N, old or new.

EDIT: Ok, my order was for a 430n as the 730n was unavailable on Sep 16th when I ordered. My build sheet shows a 430N. I was not charged for a 730N. Guess what? I just noticed the model code RER is the 730N! Finally, a f***up in my favor ;)

Yes, I absolutely have it on my 430N. When you press the menu hard button, a soft "Sirius Traffic" button comes up, and I can view the logs of traffic messages related to my route (accident, construction, etc). On the same screen is an option to turn on Dynamic Routing. When a new traffic alert comes in during active Navigation, the unit says something like "Recalculating your route due to traffic conditions".

My application version is: 2.201
Database: D3 R521N 1004 33.3
SDS 170901
System: 3.8 6816009

What version do you guys have that is missing Sirius Traffic?

As to the Overland itself, it's awesome, and I'll do a full writeup with some pics tomorrow. But first, a warning:

One heads up though. I had a much harsher ride then I was expecting for the frst couple hundred miles, and HUGE amounts of road noise. I thought somthing was seriously wrong.

As it turns out, my tire pressures were all 42 PSI. They are supposed to be 36 PSI (this is for the 20's). I bled off the excess pressure, the road noise went away, and the ride quality was hugely improved. You might not think 6 PSI would make a big difference, and I didn't think it would solve the problem, but it did. Check your pressures, because my ride was teeth jarringly brittle, and the noise was really, really bad, especially on concrete roads. The sidewall on one of my tires has a split on it now. Coincidence?

Some dealer prep, eh?

ALLELUIA Chrysler has redeemed itself, somewhat. This makes up for making me wait an additional month, + or - for my Overland. The linking of Sirius Traffic and Garmin Nav. is a serious upgrade to the 430N media center. :):thumbsup::)

Err, read my edit above. Sorry man, but really, I had no reason to assume I had anything other than the 430N. I've had the thing less than 24 hours, 12 of which have been on the road ;)

But hey, what are the odds I'm the only one who got a 730n despite it being "unavailable" and not paying for it?
