2005 4.7 exhaust manifold broken bolt
Today i tried to replace my driverside exhaust manifold, bracket and all bolts...Of course the manifold is warped as discussed in other threads. The bottom bolt on the back side (closest to the exhaust flange) is broken flush with the engine block...wat in gods green earth do i do now? while i was getting the parts from the dealer, i heard a service guy tell a woman that she needed a new exhaust manifold and that is was going to cost her $1200 total for parts and labor...anyone else have this problem? whats the best reccomended fix...anyone?

MAYBE you could lift one side of the motor or the other to gain some access. but BE careful.

short of pulling the head off, thats about all i can think of./

Re: 2005 4.7 exhaust manifold broken bolt
There is no TSB for this...but it's such a common problem with this engine that any service guy at a dealer will know what you are talking about.

Have you completely removed the manifold to see how much bolt you have left?

Re: 2005 4.7 exhaust manifold broken bolt
Yes, the bolt is broken flush with the block. The dealership is aware of this even though they act dumbfounded when Im talking to them abou the issue.T he problem I have with the whole ordeal is that I have to pay for the repair to remove the broken bolt. I bought all the parts intending to overake the task at my own expense. When i discovered the broken bolt and realized that this was why the manifold had warped, I was not very pleased with jeep. This comes after i woke up to a flood in both driver passenger foot wells due to a leak in the windshield because of a faulty seal (which there is a tsb for). Jeep wants me to pay for their neglegent engineering/manufacturing simply because im out of warranty. Its not like im asking them to replace my break pads, shocks/struts ect...these bolts should not fail like this, its clearly a **** up on their part.Whats worse is when i was at the dealership buying the parts, the service jerkoffs were completly trying to screw this ignorant woman by telling her that she was gonna have to pay $1200 to have exact said problem fixed and she was still under warranty claiming to her that its not a warranty issue and it happens all the time.I have a call into the corprate office and they said they will contact the dealer to see how they plan on handling this....We shall see

Re: 2005 4.7 exhaust manifold broken bolt
Took jeep to the dealership this morning to have bolt removed...$100 per hour to fix their **** up...what a lovely start to the day! I will keep you all updated...also tranny is shifting hard on the downshifts and sometimes when shifting up gears.Happens both when shifting manually and im drive...asked dealer to look at it and they want to charge me $120 just to hook the scan tool up to it? Highway robbery....
