Any news about the new VM Diesel Engine for the WK2

I'm not shure if i should wait for the EU Version with the 3l diesel or import a US with 3.6l Pentastar flex fuel.

I'd wait. Diesels are awesome.

now we have the official price for the 5.7l Hemi Overland in Switzerland: 82'000 US $ (Without Tax). That makes me nervous about the Diesel price.

I agree that diesels are great, but, and its a HUGE but, this modern generation of diesel passenger vehicles with their common rail stuff and Piezo injectors etc are SCARY as HELL to own and repair out of the warranty period.

If you want to keep one for many years... I truly think you're better off with a petrol version, because i really believe, that sooner or later a huge repair bill will far outweigh the consumption $ saving.

Thats just my opinion, but I'm seeing some real horror stories over here in Oz.
It only takes a batch of slightly bad fuel to cost THOUSANDS, and even if under warranty it doesn't mean it'll be covered!

Buyer beware!

Jeep / Mercedes Benz CRD Diesels will last 300k+ with proper maintence. This engine is the workhorse of the European delivery service.

I would buy a new version diesel no question. Never own a petrol rig again.

Guys with swirl pot issues amongst others are popping up all over the place......

I have a lot of love for diesel, but the electronic age is making them so much better, but at the same time, so much scarier when it does go wrong.

No hating mate.... just telling how I see it

no argument here! the more technically advanced these things become, the more that can and will go wrong :D

Just scanning the Australia Jeep forums, I'm a little frightened by some of the problems reported by owners!
Having a problem is one thing, but the cost of special parts for the things are simply astronomical!

I was hoping my next vehicle would be a TD of sorts, but I'm becoming less sure.

But anyway, do we have any further info on the VM yet? Is it being used in another vehicle yet?

I think the biggest issue with the WK CRD's was the intake seal. The swirl motor failures were not a result of the blow-by but rather the blow-by collecting in the intake and leaking down into the engine V. With the new seal I doubt there will be many problems with swirl motors. You don't hear too much of it with the MB or Sprinters and that's likely due to better intake designs from the start. Personally I wont be selling my new truck any time soon but if the WK2 had a diesel option I'd be pushing my gf real hard to upgrade.
