Left rear panel near bumper/tail light.. slight offset between bumper/body panel.

This is weird.. not horrible, just weird.

On the drivers side rear, near the tail light - there is a slight mismatch where the bumper meets the other panel.

The pic below isnt my actual photo.. It was borrowed from another users photo since I havent had the chance to take my own so you can see the area I'm talking about.

See the seam that turns upwards into the tail light... right around that turn and up till the bottom of the light, theres about 1/4" maybe less difference in the panels. Not width between them, but depth.

Either the left panel is 1/4" in, or the bumper(right) panel is 1/4" out.. but they are not along the same plane for sure.

What would any of you do, if anything..? I mean, what can be done? Its not really a big deal but its odd that they would let that slip in a quality check.

Maybe it shifted in transit or even during the last 2 weeks I've had it.. i dunno. shrug..

I would think that bumper cover could be realigned very easily. I know on the WK model...it can be.

oh, i didnt know that.. Wouldnt the whole bumper then be offset instead of that section alone or not necessarily?

not necessarily. On the WK there are little tabs that the bumper is pushed into. The bumper is offset with a little hook like cutout that pushed into those tabs. You can push them too far or not have them aligned properly and cause misalignment. The WK2 could be very similar and I would almost bet its the same.

Thanks Scott.. good to know. I feel better lol..

How would one adjust this - or is it better to take it to a service center?

well...to be honest...I havent looked at how the wk2 bumpers or fender liners are mounted. I could help you if it was an 05-10...but being a brand new 2011...I would take it to a service dept. Their body shop should be able to align that properly

My 2014 has this exact issue. I noticed it when I washed it last and my heart skipped a beat because I honestly thought it got hit there. Then I took a closer look and saw no damage and remembered all the panel misalignment issues that have been discussed about the WK2 here. It's disappointing that these alignment/fitment issues still exist for sure.

I hate taking my car to a shop unless absolutely necessary, so I was curious if you were able to fix this yourself somehow (I was -- don't laugh -- wondering if maybe some 3M automotive double-sided tape might work, but I don't know if you can easily get it in there.)

Update, the dealer is claiming that they can't fix this because there's "nothing for it to clip onto back there". They're also claiming that the driver door can't be adjusted at all to sit flush when closed, so who knows.

Anyway, they may be right, but if that's the case, how does it stay on at all? And why doesn't the problem exist on all of the WK2s I've seen?
