How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

First of all....you need the stock replacement plugs from mopar(part #rc12mcc4). The dealer gapped mine for me.

First I removed my intake(K&N) or if you are stock...remove the resonator by removing the two bolts on each side of the intake resonator and loosening the screw at the TB.

You then have this...

The coil packs are circled in red. They are held in by 10 mm nuts....remove those and pull up on the coil pack. Its very important to keep them in order...which shouldnt be hard since the wires on them are very short.

I then removed the plugs with a ratchet, 6" extention and a 5/8" spark plug socket. I then installed the new plugs tight , first starting them by hand and then torqued to 20 ft lbs. Then just reinstall the the coil pack. The back coils are tight to get too. Just be patient and use whatever tools you need

The guy over JU could use this guide..
I ran Champion platinum and the jeep felt completely smoother! in the first 20 minutes it felt very strange and after the second key turn it was nice and smooth.

I also use the champion single platinum plugs as they were very close in spec to the stock ones, albeit copper. I also had a few "{strange" starts the first 2 times i started it. But after that runs like a beaut.

Sweet guide!

The poor running is pre-ignition. The pcm will adjust the timing to compensate as best it can for plugs that are too hot for the engine. You still may have issues you may not be able to notice all the time, such as engine dying for no reason loss of power etc.

Using plugs other than Champion 439 is NOT recommended. I have read countless posts of problems related to "better" non-stock plugs being used...

Yeah i remember reading a fair amount of things about using other plugs and what not. I did not want to initially but i decided on the 3318's. However, 6k miles later still just fine but, if i have any weird issues like that i can safely start pointing my finger in certain areas of concern first.

That looks so much easier then doing them on my old 4.0 I6.

Stock plugs FTMFW!

Always try to use what the manufacturer recommends. I have always noticed bad differences with aftermarket plugs.

I just did mine yesterday with the factory recommended AutoLite spark plugs. Its deff easy, but its more of a Pita then i thought it would be.

The factory recommended plug for the '99-'07 4.7L V8 is the Champion RC12MCC4.

Does it run any better with the new factory plugs?
