Smoking Front Wheel!!
HELP - See to have a very hot front near side wheel and calliper - no visible damage, new winter wheels 3 weeks ago, brakes 2 months ago, no discernable damage to brakes, rotors or caliper, but this brake seems to be locking on and causing a lot of heat. Anybody had this problem before or any ideas as to cause please, could fluid cause this?? Only done this twice in over 7 days of driving about 200Klm per day??

Never had this, but seems to be a dragging brake. When the brake pads where changed, did they also lub the sliding pins of the calipers? At least i would take the caliper off to see if something is wrong.

Re: Smoking Front Wheel!!
Normally this is caused by a bad caliper that won't release back. I have had a couple calipers do what you are experiencing to me on my XJs over the years. I would at least check to make sure your caliper pins are floating ok. If you just put pads on and you have one or both of the pins seized you will need to try and free them and clean them up then grease them or buy a whole new caliper mount like I ended up doing. The pins I was working with were so rusted they weren't going to ever work properly again.

Hope this helps,

Re: Smoking Front Wheel!!
this issue on the dubs is almost always caused by sticking caliper slider pins. take em apart and regrease em good

Re: Smoking Front Wheel!!
if the calibers are new might be the break lines have a clog.
was happening to my dads car after new pads, rotors, calibers, can cleaing and greasing the need parts

Re: Smoking Front Wheel!!
This is an old thread and I'm a newbie here, but on my '99 Grand Cherokee, the inside of the passenger side brake hose was deteriorating on the inside, causing the right front caliper to drag.

Re: Smoking Front Wheel!!
Yeh, you hear it more often that the brake hose closes on the inside for whatever reason and that the pressure can not return, causing the brake to drag.
