Oil Change Over

Anyone have any information on switching to synthetic oil...I have a 5.7 L with 70k miles and was thinking about switching over to synthetic...a buddy of mine said he switched over and blew his engine...anyone have that problem or have heard of it?

Never heard of any problems going to synthetic as long as engine is already broke in. @ 70k yer well broke in :)
Only problem I've heard of was adding some "slick" 50 to an old engine. They say it softens the seals so they push out & leak easily.
Any info on yer buds blown engine?

I switched over at 130K with my 4.0L. You should be more than OK with your 70K engine

you can switch at any time like others have said. some people suggest that the 1st oil change you use a synthetic blend then go full synthetic on the next change.

It was on a 4.0. He said his engine and also some one else he knew with a 4.0 both blew up the engine causing piston slap. They both had about 150k on it when they did it

Huh. I'm rebuilding a 4.0 now,@about 120k I laid it over wheeling and it ran on its side for a min or 2. @ about 140k(?) I ran synthetic without issue. @ 180k it started to knock a little. When apart I could see where the bearings were wore (I'm sure from running dry that time) but not much else. Maybe they were just putting thin stuff in an engine that was too worn and the thinner oil (most people seem to think they need to go thinner w/synthetic for some reason) just weeped out (shrug)

Just did mine last week. O7 Overland 5.7 4x4 47k miles. Went w Mobile1 5-20 also used some chevron techron fuel system cleaner. Worked great! Less "tick" and seems to run smoother.

I've changed cars over to synthetic at 91K, 62K, 116K, 110K, 39K, 36K, and 85K. lol in that order. it doesn't really matter when. just do the oil and the filter and you're all set. that's all that needs to be done.
